Funny KROQ promo

Charger games have been on 98.7 since the 2020 season with their move to Inglewood's SoFi Stadium.
KFI was the primary station for their first 3 seasons (2017-2019).

The press release at that time (understandably) did not address Loveofradio's/TheBigA's questions of why they moved:

My money (oops! sports betting's not legal in California) is on demographics. The Chargers would like for a chunk of their radio audience to be under 50 and they know that's less likely on AM. iHeart's going to want to keep that out of a news release because they don't want to say that KFI attracts an older audience and that younger people are less likely to listen to a game on AM.

that’s a really good point that I often forget about. I’m surprised kroq isn’t counterattacking by having the Rams on 106.7 instead of 93.1. Especially if kroq lost as much billing as everyone says. Jack FM is already a top biller. I remember when live 105 had the raiders for a few years

The money really all goes in the same pot. If people tune away from Jack during an NFL game, they're probably more likely to end up on KRTH or KROQ than anything the competition has. If the game was on KROQ, that might work in reverse, but it also would remove a potentially attractive promotion proposition (when they're yakking about sports, we're playing your favorite music) against KYSR.

93.1 is a much better signal. I am sure the Rams know this and would not accept 106.7

I’ve brought that up before here. Everyone says 106.7 is fine. I even thought the same thing when I lived in Culver City. The Rams wouldn’t care. As long as the game is heard. If that were the case, how would a 16-time NBA champion, being the Lakers, accept being on 710 for so many years

I remember hearing somewhere that the NFL was trying to get as many of their teams as possible on an FM signal. That’s part of the reason why the Chargers moved from KFI to KYSR. The team and the league wanted their flagship to be on FM. Because coverage wise, you can’t beat the reach of KFI compared to any other FM option. If you look at every NFL team’s flagship radio station, I believe most of them are now on FM or are simulcast on FM in most of the team’s home markets. I know that’s what happened to the Green Bay Packers who moved from their long-time home of WTMJ 620 AM to an FM station, WRNW 97.3 The Game.
