K earth running a special on suicide

If you or someone you know has struggled with mental health, yes, it’s worth it. For far too long, this country has treated mental health issues with shame not associated with physical health issues. The way insurance companies still approach it should be criminal.

From all to familiar experience, it for damn sure is worth it to get the message out there. That Audacy can call it a public service is irrelevant; it’s important information and anything that helps lessen the stigma is a positive.

It looks good in the public file and it makes Audacy look good. It used to run on Sundays. They have been doing it since 2017, which was a harsh year for mental health, particularly with Chris Cornell and later Chester from Linkin Park. That was also the year Entercom took over CBS Radio

I suspect the turning point was Robin Williams' suicide. This could no longer be looked at as thousands and thousands of aberrations.

I'm in favor of anything that gets people the help they need - and that enables us to discuss these issues openly. Thirty-seven years ago was the only time in my life that I contemplated suicide; ironically enough, because I had been fired from my third radio job in two years and this particular firing was executed in a cruel manner that destroyed my self-esteem. I managed to recover without professional help because I had strong family support and one friend in particular who reached out - not just once, but several times - to help me find a solution. Even so, I sure could have used that professional help back then. It took years for me to recover to a functional state, and finally, about ten years later, I did seek out a therapist and it made a big, positive difference. But, back 37 years ago, people didn't talk much about those situations and, with dwindling resources, I felt trapped. (That was a big factor in why I left radio - I saw no future in it). Making mental-health resources widely and easily available is as essential as it is for any other health concern, and I applaud Audacy for this effort.

Wow thanks for sharing your story Mark

ALL Audacy stations run it aside from the remaining HD2 channels and for some reason Channel Q
Speaking of…why is 97.1’s HD2, Channel Q? Is that the most unique HD1/HD2 in the country? All news and dance music? I would’ve thought by now Audacy would use 97.1’s HD2 for something news related. I know this sounds silly, but thats one of the reasons I still feel Audacy isn’t serious about having knx long term on 97.1

Channel Q was put on there when Amp was still on. For a time, dance was on ‘CFS-HD2 in Chicago before it became The Bet.

I'm glad to see Audacy doing this. To the naysayers out there: literally anything helps. It's great to see a major company taking the initiative to make some sort of a positive change. I'm not sure it will make a huge difference, but even if it helps one person, it's absolutely worth it. I've personally been through some tough times before. Getting married and divorced in your twenties will put you in some bad places.

Read the Trump thread here, as scary as that is, other sites have comment sections where people suffering from TDS are literally foaming at the mouth as they spew their deranged anger. There's some MAGA people who also are sick, obviously not on the TDS levels, but they could also benefit from professionals getting them to focus on other things that could tame the monster before they start mowing people down with their cars.
Audacity surprised me in a good way when I first heard it. I think this is now their 3rd year and this year it's needed more than ever.
Mental health conditions vary from slight depression to ticking time bombs like TDS. It's not just the quality of life of that mentally suffering individual, we all have to risk our lives and our love ones who could just be in the wrong place at the wrong time when a news story sets them off. We certainly live in scary times where people have become numb to catastrophic events. Where excuses are constantly made, blaming objects like cars and guns rather than be honest and finally take a serious initiative in getting these people The proper care that they need and thus we all need.
