MLB Playoffs -- Tampa Rays low attendance

Correction on my previous post about ABC and ESPN. A single series decider would have been on ESPN. A second one, on ABC. I had it the other way around, even after hearing the arrangement explained on one of yesterday's telecasts.
A moot point, now that all four series' were two-game sweeps. Disney is out of the baseball business until next spring. TBS and Fox/FS1 take over for the next two rounds.

You think Detroit at Green Bay was better? It was last Thursday's top rated show.
Team trying to move on from its star QB vs. the most hyped team of the 2023 season? Divisional matchup as well? Much more attractive than Bears-Commanders, given the current state of both teams, no question.

A couple of Rays players are blaming MLB for the attendance problem after having to play in the 3:00 game both Tuesday and Wednesday. I seem to recall empty seats at games shown in the 1:00 window in NLDS and ALDS series in years past, but not to the extent of this week's embarrassments at the Trop. Why 3:00? Simple. MLB buries the teams in the smallest markets, with the smallest national followings and with the lowest interest by advertisers, because TV is the tail that wags this dog, and what TV wants, TV gets.

Of course, in most recent baseball preseasons, TV has been getting at least one New York team, plus fairly frequent appearances from the Red Sox (that has come to an end, it seems), Giants, Cubs and Cardinals. This year's postseason must be causing ulcers in the corner offices of Fox and TBS.

I agree 3 pm on a weekday on about 2 days notice is a tough one. But same time and same short notice many other team’s ballparks would have been much more crowded.

They may care if they took Washington.
Your point is?

Mine was that they care about all games they have money on, whatever side they took in their betting. Those who took Washington and the points, and the "over" bettors, probably stopped caring about the game at halftime, but they all cared until then.

The game was better than I expected. I actually stayed through the whole thing.

I meant to say the "under" bettors stopped caring, BTW. As for me, I had no money on the game (sports betting still not available here in VT, and I'm not sure I'll be doing much of it when it arrives next year) and couldn't watch it live because I don't have an Amazon Prime membership, but I watched the first half on the NFL Network replay at midnight and gave up on it early.
