I haven’t seen the open, but yes it’s Joyce solo anchoring now. It appears that Joyce and Greg are doing the 7 pm show as well. Jessica & Steve are just doing the 4 & 9 pm now. Previously it was:I just moved away from Seattle but notied on the TV listing that the 5pm now lists KING 5 NEWS at 5 with Joyce Taylor. Is show now solo anchoring? Does it have a new opening with "with Joyce Taylor" now?
It's not just KING, it's everywhere around the country. Local news is under a lot of pressure due to the advertising climate.Seems like it’s been in flux with anchors since 2019.
Forgive me for asking, I honestly don't know much about contracts in the tv news business. Do the anchors get paid by how many hours they anchor? Or is it a longer term cost savings because they may eventually negotiate less $$ for, say, Jessica and Steve if they are only anchoring the lower-rated 4 and 9pm newscasts? It's not just KING, it's everywhere around the country. It depends. Size of the market matters. Generally, for union-represented anchors, (I believe KING is still AFTRA) their contract is negotiated based on X hours per week over the term of their contract. Their number of paid vacation days/hours is factored in as well. Anything above what was negotiated is OT, usually time and a half or double time if a holiday.Forgive me for asking, I honestly don't know much about contracts in the tv news business.
