The Beatles' new song "Now And Then" to be aired on all 760 iHeart stations next Thursday.

Now artists are being discovered on TikTok, allow folks on social media to stream their songs for free, then hit the road touring.

We have to be a little clearer about this: The artists aren't being discovered on TikTok. Some music is being discovered there. Not because of the artist, but because some content creator uses that music in their short video, or they remix or edit the music to suit their own purposes. So people who view those videos hear the music, and then wonder who the artist is, and the video triggers a search. The users don't pay for the music, but TikTok is supposed to pay.

David is right that once past 65, you're in the final 20% of existence. Has nothing to do with 'taste' and more just a fact.
Yes, but he was irked when I mentioned that he's in the same boat as Dylan and Springsteen. He said "Bad Taste". Anyone here over 50 has more days behind them than ahead. Maybe not a happy thought, but we're all on a one way road...😑

I don't see discovery via TikTok any different than discovery in decades past through inclusion of songs in TV shows and movies and play at events and clubs. Today, the response time is much faster, but exposure in ways other than radio is not a new phenomenon.

Not "irked". Just bad taste in the situation.

Most of us don't spend our entire day worrying about the past as you seem to. And few of us, even if we lived during the era, waste time comparing new music with that of the Beatles.

Yeah, but FFS. To a guy who's 77 and in bed with COVID right now?

I didn't know that and no malice was intended. We certainly hope David recovers. Just to be clear, David is the one that said Dylan and Springsteen are in their final years...

In all of this I am reminded of the case that any of us who have been in management or ownership have experienced at least once: an employee who never commits a blatant firing offense, but says and does things that are cumulatively so annoying that you wish there was something you could pin on them as a firing offense.

Springsteen is in his 70’s. During his tour this year, he talked about being the last surviving member of the first band in which he played as a teenager name “The Castilles.” It was called “Last Man Standing.” Dylan is roughly 80.

As an aside, I have family in the Tulsa area, and I went to the Bob Dylan Center, which is located downtown, over Labor Day Weekend. I highly recommend it if you find yourself in or near that area. I spent an entire afternoon there and could've easily spent two more hours there.

Why’s he have a center there when he’s from Minnesota? It does sound cool though.

The Arkansas Democrat Gazette article sums it up nicely. Kaiser was largely responsible for the Bob Dylan Center being in Tulsa. While Dylan didn't choose Tulsa himself, he reportedly wanted his museum somewhere in or near the Midwest because the coastal areas didn't need another attraction.

If you visit, the Democrat Gazette is correct that you can get an all day pass to both the Bob Dylan and the Woody Guthrie Centers. I didn't have time to do both, though, and you probably won't either if you're a fan of them. I didn't bother with the all day pass because I'm not a huge Guthrie fan. I haven't seen his center yet. The article also mentions Greenwood Rising, which covers the Tulsa Race Massacre, is within walking distance of the Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie Centers. That's also worth a visit if you're there, and I'd recommend allocating an hour for that. I went to Greenwood Rising first, had lunch in the area, and went to the Dylan Center. The area has several good restaurants and drinking establishments. The Guthrie Green across the street used to have a concession stand with a full menu and often has food trucks lining the street to the east.

If you find yourself headed to the area and want recommendations, send me a PM. I go to Tulsa a few times a year and try to visit at least a handful of local places every visit.
