Friday a big day…..

I've commented prior that we all recognize that a great number of participants here would never be confused for brain surgeons. I agree it's strange that local or industry-impactful topics are ignored, and bottom-feeding topics like derelict AM's, LPFM's, Christmas music launches, and pirate stations get the most attention. It's like a view into a strange universe outside of the real one.
To be entirely fair, many of the topics that are more meaningful seem to get shut down right away with no real discussion occurring. It doesn't necessarily mean that members of RD simply don't care or don't have an interest in discussing these topics.

Guess I missed those among the discussions of Tacoma stations, community colleges, pirates, and KIXI.

A lot of people who frequent this board aren't professionals, and never have been though. I would venture the assumption that they probably feel more comfortable discussing those topics than trying to provide any useful insight on professionals who are active at this current point in time.

This is Earth shaking news.

Losing BJ Shea is bad enough for KISW (who is usually #1 or #2 in P25 to 54). The fact he is going to a direct competitor and will be heard there in a few short weeks is a gigantic win for iHM and a major loss for Audacy.

Now they just need to fix the rest of KZOK..
As I mentioned before, KZOK used to be my favorite station in the market hands down. That’s changed over time, though. I find that 95.7 is a bit easier to listen to over extended periods of time, with more variety in the music and a more “local” feel.

I can’t fault KZOK one bit for shifting their playlist forward. Not all of it is my cup of tea, but it’s absolutely the right move. With that being said, they definitely ride certain songs (and artists) a lot harder than some of the others.

I hope that bringing in BJ might inspire a few changes to keep things fresh and interesting. BJ is the type of personality who likes to keep things interesting, so I think this is the best possible outcome.

According to BJ during his introduction with Danny Bonaduce on KZOK: Audacy let him go.

They seem to be quietly letting big name morning talent contracts expire without renewal. There are two such examples involving Audacy AM drive talent in my home market.

I-Heart in Seattle appears to be spending money which is nice to see. In the last few years they hired Bender for KJEB along with Jodi, entire Jubal Show for KBKS and now BJ Shea to join Sarah for KZOK. They could have easily gone with one of their syndicated shows to save money, but did not. Encouraging for fans of radio talent.

110% agreed. KZOK is mainly voice tracked from other markets at this point, and it seems to have lost much of what makes it a Seattle media icon. Adding BJ is a great step in maintaining a local feel. And credit to iheart for the rest of the moves; 106.1 is relevant again and 95.7 sounds great and has an excellent morning show.

I second that! This move may lose some listeners but will gain a LOT of ex-KISW listeners. They will just tune the dial up a little bit to KZOK! Finally a good move by iHeart, watch the ratings climb and the dollars soar. Even their Hits 106.1 has become a major competitor vs. 92.5 after being in the waste bin for years.

I'll have to listen to KZOK and/or The Jet on the stream after Christmas. Normally if I listen to anything from Seattle, it's 96.5 Jack, The Sound, or KPNW.

While they're at it, fix the audio processing too. KZOK's is laughable. Sounds like someone took an AM Optimod and stuck it in the program chain.

I usually don’t have an ear for things like that, but it is very apparent on KZOK. I’d say there’s a huge difference between KZOK and their sister station on 95.7…

My bet is the sound is 'PD-driven'. Part of the old school 'It's rock so make it LOUD'-thinking. The problem with that mindset when services like Spotify are your competitor, you're just harming TSL because most of your audience already knows what the music sounds like un-or much less processed. That, and most of the radios in vehicles have automatic gain controls built in to manage loudness when switching between stations. Adding a bunch of distortion and loss of dynamic range isn't accounting for the radio keeping the apparent volume the same as your competitors. Rather, the music just comes out as distorted and smashed sounding.
