The 2024 predictions thread

WBD, Paramount merger talks: Why debt could be an issue Would create a lot of debt. Kind of doubt it will go through.

From the last lines of what you just posted:

"For Warner Bros. Discovery, with its $43 billion in debt, and Paramount's $15 billion in debt, and the overlap in terms of business lines, it's going to be difficult, strategically and regulatorily, to get this through. But David Zaslav is nothing if not ambitious. He clearly doesn't think he's done yet in Hollywood. He wants more in Hollywood."

The bottom line here is that Paramount is in play. If WBD doesn’t do a deal, NBCUniversal is also reportedly interested (word is that’s the deal Shari wants, but it would require selling CBS separately, which a deal with WDB wouldn’t.

Might the Universal deal be more likely if that is what she wants?

My head hurts. so TNT and other Turner nets will have another owner? how many is that in the last 10 years? Was this all part of the plan or did WBD quickly discover owning more tv networks is expensive?

WBD will own more stations. Zaslav will be the captain of a big ship.

Guarantee that everyone from the FCC to the DOJ to international regulators will look at this WBD/Paramount marriage under the microscope to find something else that might force them to give up valuable real estate.

the more realist option is WBD buys off a spun off of Paramount Global CBS Network, their TV stations, their shares of the CW (which is little at this point and most likely sold off to Nextstar to give them full ownership of the remaining 25 percent of shares that CBS & WBD owns combined) a few of the cable network all while the rest of Paramount Global merges into NBCUniversal via Comcast buy out with Paramount Pictures going to NBC Universal.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see. WBD have been doing tax write offs lately so this could factor in as well but I do see the two spinning off assets or closing down unprofitable divisions to get into compliance with regulations.
