DFW, Texas - Sangean ATS-909X

New station, new state logged:

1000 KNWN Seattle, WA at 1/18/2024 0305 CST - Weak, but rising to fair with "Northwest News" and local weather. Mostly alone on the channel with KTOK/XEOY barely audible.

I had seen Loyd in Louisiana report hearing KNWN recently so I began checking 1000 occasionally, finding just XEOY/KTOK and rarely WMVP. Happened to wake up around 3am today, grabbed the radio from the nightstand and checked 1000 and sure enough, there was KNWN.

Great catch, TXPH97. Thanks for letting us know - your report led me to logging this long-desired station (and state) for the first time ever from San Antonio.

While driving home last night and tuned to 1000 on my '14 Accord's stock radio, I started hearing a weak signal with news talk occasionally under/mixing with XEOY's music. When I rolled in to my garage (10:20 p.m. CST), I heard the host identify himself as Brian Calvert, and he announced "The newswatch never stops - don't miss it" and "Seattle's only all-news alert station - 97.7 FM and AM 1000."

Later at 11:59 CST on my Kaito 1103, I heard the station again with a "KNWN-FM Oakville and KLPZ-HD2 Seattle" ID followed by ABC news before XEOY took over.

Washington is my 36th state logged from San Antonio, and the distance was 1,771 miles, my second longest catch (first is WBZ) inside the continental U.S.

Try for CKWX in Vancouver next, it came in great in the winter when I was in Iowa City.

Somewhat tough for me in Houston with sloppy local KLAT 1010, but need to give this a better try given receptions in SA, DFW, and Louisiana.

One new one last night, on 1390, a very crowded frequency here. At 10:15pm CST, heard a clear ID for Sports FM94, WTJF Jackson TN //stream w/baseball discussion. I've also heard ESPN Radio on 1390 the last 2 nights around 7:00pm, maybe also them. Apparently they switched to sports on 1/1/24. Night pattern has a null towards me.

One of the messages on the full answering machine here today was from Christine Wolfert, PD of WCHI in Chillicothe, who was nice enough to verify the Monday morning reception of Jan 15 I'd phoned them about.
There was only a slight doubt on my end, as I heard the liner say 'The Breeze, 1350, WCHI', and their home page via Radio-Locator says 'Easy 1350'. I didn't manage to tape the ID. But Ms. Wolfert's message said that they are 'The Breeze, WCHI, Easy 1350'.
It didn't occur to me until just now that WCHI would make for wonderful call letters for a station in Chicago, and, well, there is one -- on huge-signalled 95.5, a Rock station. Dunno which facility was first. Both are IHeart stations.
This gives me three (3) phone-message QSL's now. It might be an alternate way to collect such keepsakes, what with traditional return postage inquiries running like 12 dollars lately.
So it's now station #4 logged on 1350 out here in NEPA, and the first from Metro Chillicothe.

KGLB-1310 Glencoe MN (classic country) may be running day power tonight. Easily heard under KLIX on the Stevensville, Montana SDR, and KMKY is way underneath. It's 968 miles away.
Also hearing XEAO-910 Mexicali from the same SDR, only 250 watts, Radio Mexicana.
EDIT - Now hearing my local La Estacion de La Familia on 1230, KDYM Sunnyside! Interesting! Mentions of Yakima, Washington and IDs in SS.

Two new FMs heard at around 9:30pm in Picayune, MS:
103.9 KRKA Severance, CO - Air 1
95.1 KCGY Laramie, WY - Y95 Country, with ad for Laramie Dental and forecast for Laramie Valley
It's been very difficult to DX on AM recently due to power line noise caused by the replacement of the transmission lines across the street from my house. Before, with the insulators in place they would only buzz when raining or fog. There's also more static on FM, with most of the HD channels not coming in as they usually would. The noise should stop once they come back to put insulators in.

There has been alot of winter Sporadic-E the last two days.

Last night I had some weak stuff but only logged 93.9 KRTN Raton, NM

Today LOTS of people getting stuff. I had it scattered between NE, SD, and one station in Co. Managed to also get 93.1 Grande Prairie, AB, Canada which is new.

You are not seeing things but I had a massive E-SKIP opening in the dead of winter with MANY new logs!! SD, NE, KS, ND, CO, and one from the TX panhandle. Full report tonight or tomorrow. 108 MUF too!

Unusual to see this late into the winter.

Glad you had better luck then I did. Was quite weak and not great here.

Studio for them is in cheyenne. It used to be in larmaie.. but they dumped the last local host sometime in 2020 i think.. mvoed the studio to cheyenne and nothings changed. their AM sister in larmaie has no local programming either. i used to live a mile from the KOWB AM tower site/studio/KCGY studio and have seen the KCGY/KLWV/KUWR tower site.

Couldnt hear the one good station in albany county? pfftt :)

This is 25KW Day 10KW night XEBS 1410 Mexico City, Mexico.. 4000 miles away on Dec. 27th at 801pm AK Time.

This guy failed out of 7th grade spanish and never took it again and the signal is a little noisy, but even *I* understood "Sabrosita" at 17 1/2 seconds as a station name.

Big FM Broadcast Sporadic-E opening out west. This felt like a good June opening not January

50 Logs with I/Q files to review. LOTS of new stuff to NE and Ks. Some new stuff to Co as well. Too many to list here.

Seemingly ever DXer in the Chicago area has heard this one but me....

Until FINALLY its my turn! WTCM 580 from Traverse City, MI Yesterday morning just after 7am CDT, there it was! Presumably on day power with a sharp null in my direction. On top of the channel with a fair signal for 5-10 minutes. News and ads for local businesses. Radio was rhe C Crane Skywave.

One less item in mybucket list.

Even more Sproadic-E FMBC Es this morning. West Texas to New Mexico. Common Path.

Mostly re-logs. Maybe a new thing or two.

This is getting dumb now. For the last 4 days in a row I've had some form of Winter FMBC Es. Last two days being the best.

Radio Enciclopedia is back, I'm pretty sure. Orchestral music with announcements in Spanish.

I can hear it on the KPH-LF KiwiSDR in all it's warbly, old timey glory. As of this writing, there's an instrumental version of Norwegian Wood by... some orchestra. I should find out who recorded it, as I actually like the arrangement quite a bit.

I wish there was an American station that sounded like this, but with better sound quality, of course.

1490 KBLF Red Bluff, CA NEW! 617pm AK Time Wed Jan 25, 2024 with the theme from the TV soap opera "As The World Turns" followed by what sounded like a promo with snippets of songs the station plays, like Islands in The Stream and Bridge Over Troubled Water, interspersed by a female voiceover then a male said "KBLF" into a commercial break. I think KBLF is running the Westwood One adult standards/soft oldies network feed, I recognize the voice and the format 2081 miles between me and Red Bluff. I recognized the theme to As The world Turns, a tv soap opera immediately, even without s using shazam or Soundhound. That was my late mothers favorite soap opera when i was a kid. (Walker-AK)

Here's audio clip #1 with the theme from "As The world Turns"
