730 AM Unknown Station (Part 2)

I first posted about the mysterious station playing classical guitar music (and some classical piano) on 730 am on February 10. I continue to hear this station in west central Georgia every evening and early morning including tonight (March 2). The station never identifies itself or has any spoken words. Just the same classical guitar music over and over.

I traveled to the South Carolina coast for a few days last week and heard the station there at night but the signal was weaker. While traveling across Georgia during the day I did not hear the station. I tried to pick up the only regional 730 am (WSTT from Thomasville GA) and check their programming (they usually air religious programming) but I could not hear it. I did hear a weak signal with spoken voices on 730 am in east Georgia which I believe was WLTQ from Charleston SC with religious programming.

I find it odd that a station would run this type of programming for over three weeks. I'd like to know what purpose this type of broadcast serves. If anyone else can hear this station, please let me know.

Thanks to Mitch Brewer who reported hearing it in Loganville GA and gr8oldies who heard it on the Atlanta SDR a few weeks ago.

Scratch what I originally said regarding Guatemala or Yucatan. Look what MWList is saying:

KQPN West Memphis AR 1KW
non-stop classical mx, ex KSUD

This used to be SportsMap, and previously ESPN. They may have lost their affiliation and are going to this while they look for a new format or service to air.

Do we have an SDR in TN/AR/KY to confirm?

Thanks crainbebo! Your suggestion makes sense. The signal is fairly weak but clear at night which would suggest a 1kw station. The the Radio Locator website shows a lobe at night aimed towards the southeast (towards me). And the consistent reception after sunrise suggests a station to my northwest, which would be the direction of Memphis. And playing the same classical guitar CD over and over with no announcement makes sense for a station that will be changing formats in the future.
I tried to hear the station on line but none of the links work. It would be great to confirm with a regional SDR.
Thanks again!

I wonder if this is a cuban station?

There's one nearby in Kentucky but didn't hear it. My thought was the classical guitar bein an open network transponder.

It's being heard daytime in the Carolinas, but only in a rather specific area. IIRC, a poster mentioned that on one of the Atlanta SDRs it was not listenable... and Atlanta is closer to Cuba. This does not sound like what a station in Cuba would do, even for testing.

It is 4:50pm and I tuned to the Tipton County TN, a short distance from Memphis SDR and heard the classical guitar. Signal was weak but the SDR likely is not optimized for MW. Presumably then we have KQPN. This is like tracking down that busy signal on 1340 a few years ago

KQPN is owned by the WWCR Shortwave folks... so i cant imagine why theyd be filling with guitar music for days or weeks on end.. broker it out or simulcast one of their other stations.

At night in my area, I get a French language canadian station

I haven't DX'ed in about a week due to working the graveyard shift. Tonight, 3/4 I tuned in at 00:04 and it was classical music. Not the usual guitar but I've heard classical other than just the guitar loop on this signal. Using the trusty compass, it is coming from ~305 degrees from my location in Loganville, Ga. Definitely not Cuba. No ID.

Probably CKAC. It's a quiet spot at night in Ohio between WGN and CFZM, but the pattern on Radio Locator makes it look like they don't send much signal my way. If you're in Connecticut, you probably have a much better chance of picking it up than me.

I am from Connecticut cuz I live there

Sorry to post in 2 threads, earlier I’d only seen the old one. I was hearing this really well between 4:30 am and 6:15 am in Winder Ga. Of this has been going on so long.
