Bonneville Cuts

Bryan Suits is out of KTTH mornings, replaced by Armstrong & Getty.

Jake Skorheim moves from KIRO nights to the 3-7 PM with John Curley, replacing Shari Elliker.

KZOK vet Nate Connors is out as PM traffic anchor, The Reverend En Fuego (formerly of KISW) is also out, was topical content producer for KIRO/KTTH.

Nights on KIRO(FM) appears will be John Bachelor from CBS.

We've been talking about this everywhere. It was bound to hit Bonneville. Radio revenues are down, so staffing needs to adjust.

Brian Suits was funny. Had a lively show. Sorry to see him gone, but I suppose his salary (and that of his producer) wasn't cheap....

I've heard Armstrong & Getty on KFBK and a few other West Coast news talkers. I think they were even on KGO before KGO went sports-bet talk.

Armstrong & Getty originate on KSTE/650 (KFBK's little brother) out of Sacramento. Yes, they had been on KGO for awhile, but got moved over to KGO's little brother, KSFO/560, which is all wingnut talk. It's actually a shame, they used to be reasonable (and sometimes humorous) conservative talkers, but as with almost all of the talk hosts working in that genre, they had to drink the Kool-Aid to survive, and now they're just like everyone else.

I'm not a political talk fan, but I often check the local AM stations to see what they're talking about as I drive back home from dropping off my daughter at before-school jazz band. This morning, when I landed at 770 around 7:08 a.m., they were playing a bunch of PSAs in a row, then a legal ID, then ... dead air. They joined "Armstrong & Getty" in mid-sentence.

One question: KTTH has regularly topped KVI in the recent ratings. Would KVI cut John or Ari, the only local shows left there?

That's correct. In SF Armstrong & Getty are now on KSFO.

Some talk stations seem to be shifting to syndicated morning shows in addition to syndicated programming throughout the rest of the day. iHeart has a guy named Michael DelGiorno they’ve been rolling out to a handful of talk stations in morning drive such as KFYI Phoenix and WLAC Nashville. I’m surprised it’s taken this long considering local shows aren’t cheap to produce and you can only run so many gold and silver, Camp LeJune, and retirement planning ads to cover the costs.

Don’t discount Carlson and KVI. Regardless of the unfortunate circumstances here, tough to cut a live and local host at a conservative talk station, 6 months before a general election in a Presidential year. Those listener craze local political banter. Should be a pretty good boost for KVI and Carlson.

I've seen past research that included Carlson's show. Even listeners of that political ilk think he's boring. After all these years it's pretty clear that you can't fix boring. Also, listeners don't care about local or live. They want quality and entertaining. Full stop.

Michael Savage was not local, but he sure could be entertaining. I used to tune into his show from time to time. It wasn't really for me (since he came off a bit sanctimonious, but it could be funny).

Well, Armstrong & Getty are entertaining. I haven't heard them in a few weeks, but when I used to hear them on the California and Oregon stations they seemed to be able to crack a few jokes along with the usual political blather.

I was involved with Bonneville Seattle staff slaughter in 2021. Recommendations were based on Cost per Person and Cost per Listener models. Seatlle quarter million dollar salaries will staff a Utah station cluster. Four people had to go.
Suits makes a valid point. "... The company, Bonneville, has had two years to try to figure out what to do with 200,000 live streams per day and they couldn’t. But I can, ...”. [Morning Host Bryan Suits Exits 770 KTTH in Seattle] Byran attracted measureable SEA net traffic while working in L.A. and had considerable L.A. net traffic while working in SEA. tuner.bonneville.com portal and servers have issues. Many, if not most, of those 200K live streams are reconnects. Every Kiss Begins con Kay en Espanol spots? Poor marketing of a bad product.
Perhaps SLC needed someone to replace the irreplaceable Dori Monson and Bryan Suits wasn't it. I want to listen more of him but web and pod casts have very small ROI. Chinese AM/FM/WiFi radios are here now. Next year with small three color TFT LED touch screen GUIs and an active [Chinese] web browser. Perhaps he will be at the base of the tsunami wave that is the future marriage between radio broadcasting and IOT.
Hang ten, Bro'.

Uh...sure. No idea who they are.

Wow, that's some serious stream-of-consciousness posting right there. Took me reading it four times to grasp:
Bonneville RIF'd four people in 2021. Not clear what the reason was from the post. Doubt the CB did either.
