Beyonce Country Project

Although stations aren't all in on the Shaboozey song, they ARE playing the new Kane Brown duet with Marshmello:


Kane did a previous song with Marshmello, but it didn't get the attention this one is getting. Audacy is all in:

Shaboozey spends his second week at #1 on the Hot Country chart.

I see his record label has now signed an indie promo team to start working the song at country radio.
 
Pop was all over the ACM Awards, but no Beyonce or Shaboozey.

Instead we had Post Malone, Dua Lipa, Avril Lavigne, Gwen Stefani, and Noah Kahan.
Probably too early to put Shaboozey on an awards show.

Overall, an odd show, with little evidence of the more traditional/retro lean that's been evident at the CMAs in recent years. Instead, it backed up your previous assertion that Big Music is pushing a one-genre agenda. So much of what I heard could slot neatly into multiple radio formats, but "country" barely describes some of this music. Of all the '90s acts Lainey Wilson could have covered, why Little Texas?

That said, my favorite new song of the night by far was Jelly Roll's rock/soul/gospel "Liar." Good to see Miranda Lambert back, too, but the song she did doesn't do much for me.

Noah Kahan is from up this way (Vermont/New Hampshire) and went to high school just a few miles up the road. He might be a more interesting new cog in the Nashville machine from a roots/American standpoint than the other pop interlopers you mention.

What state were they in? Texas. So they opened the show with the song God Blessed Texas. Seems to me last year they opened the show with a similar tribute to either the state or cowboys. Specifically with regards to Lainey being the one to cover that song, there is a Little Texas tribute album in the works, and apparently she does that song on the album. It's uptempo, a great way to open the show, and led into her new single.

I naturally forgot this was even on and I don't like to watch anything online. I think I read it could be seen for free.
 
I finally checked out the Beyonce "Texas Hold'em" track and it's OK. Fits country. The banjos and acoustic guitars don't sound forced or contrived. Sounds genuine enough. Her vocal delivery is her delivery, but it fits the format enough.
 
Did the version you heard have the ''S'' word in the first verse? Even the bro country boys stayed away from that.
It had the b word and the s word. The official vid, which didn't look too country, but then again, she's an urban woman doing country music, so I suppose it would look phony for her to be on a farm, driving a pickup truck, all that sort of country stereotyped stuff.

Listening to the Beyonce track I figured that for radio they'd just edit the two words out. That is what we did at the format factory if the record co's didn't service us with an actual radio edit. Which sometimes happened.... New song, s word or f bomb in the lyrics somewhere; no radio edit so you get the CD/MOHD masterers (me) to make one. One time the S word was actually in the Radio Edit. That was bizarre. A quick fix though. But we had to throw 400 CDs away because it didn't get caught until I heard it....
 
To me, this complete and total masterpiece of a young man should've been given the ACM Song of the Year award for his song named "Reasons To Come Home". Go here to check out the awesome song and its video.

I get that, but the lyrics are part of the song, and the question is if the song fits the format. If corrected and edited, then maybe.
My guess is that it fits the format just enough, maybe not for every country station, but -- with those words edited -- I can see why some country stations would play it. I'm not really a country fan, and don't really know 'acceptable hit country' today from non-hit country, so I'll leave the real opinions to those in the know. I just gave it a listen and didn't hear a lot of contrivance. Any more than the Stones' Dead Flowers (or Torn And Frayed) were contrived. It was their own take on country, and I think this track (and probably the others in the project) may be Beyonce's own personal take on country. That's how it struck me, anyway.

The Rolling Stones' Torn And Frayed, probably their best 'country' tinged tune. Includes a really cool steel guitar solo in the middle.
 
It was on one of my local stations as a "sizzling new single" for exactly two weeks, being played four times a day, then vanished completely!
So I'm taking it that the average Country music fans weren't impressed by the vocal (and other) delivery. It did seem to fit urban more than country.
