Miami/Fort Lauderdale Power 96 Flips To Rhythmic Throwbacks

Spot on!

This is the Power 96 I remember when I lived in Miami during the '90s.
Those things come later after you play the mass appeal rhythmic staples to build out the cume and announce that the obvious change has finally been implemented.

This has to be basically early 90s as the oldest they get, so you might get like a little Suzy spike at best on the freestyle.
They are playing the dancehall classics like murder she wrote, action, and rich girl along with Ghost town DJs!

Maybe after they go through the announce and pounce the new format stage, they could explore something like a well executed Sunday night freestyle show!

And I think it's fairly obvious that there will be mix shows here, that's signature Power 96 brand heritage!
But now is the time to smash the hits and put in the time to build the right team of mixers who understand Miami heritage and really get what has always made Power 96 special!

It still sounding very corporate like all the other Throwback stations in the country like 94.7 The Block NYC. Also over there no NYC heritage throwbacks like good Freestyle and classic HipHop and rap.

They need to play some of the old Latin dance and spanish reggae songs from the 90s and mid 00s. A Noon lunchtime mixshow w all genres played during the 90s Bring back the traffic jam, bring back the power love hour, Power Mix Weekends one weekend out of every month to let the djs get off of the playlist a little and play some real miami classics bass dance retro etc.... one could only wish lol. I'd even throw in some ultra classic 80s dance hip hop and bass tracks during the mixes. So many songs only to play the same 40 on shuffle.

The Power format programmed on the iHeart app is made by iHeart. Power 96 is owned and operated by Audacy. Power 96 has been around since the year 1986, so if we want to talk about the "real" Power, WPOW-FM would be the "real" one in this case.
We know all of that. I wanted to demonstrate an example of a current Rhythmic Hits format. There aren‘t many of those. my guess is that the format may not rate well among the test listeners.

Last time I checked, WPOW was a gold-based Rhythmic Hot AC/CHR prior to flipping to Classic Hip Hop.

The answer has been stated, the 1994-2014 or so sound that targeted "Hispanic" females.
Why put "Hispanic" in quotes? It is a standard term created by the government to classify a segment of the poulation.
It's really Miami females, the market is just it's own place with it's own feel and sound that Power used to have perfected like no other past and present.
No, it is Metro Miami Hispanics, and the Hispanic population in Broward is now over 33% of the total population.
(I think I'm being targeted so don't be surprised if this ends up deleted, I really hope that I'm wrong, what a shame that would be)
As long as you avoid political comments, you will be fine.

I guess to do that you have bring DJ Laz back.

Doesn’t El Zol already play at least the “latin dance” and “spanish reggae” on their afternoon show?

Listened today. I like this change so far. Hopefully they will have more than 400 songs on rotation. 92.7 the vibe plays old stuff I never heard before as a '90s kid. But I am more of a 93.5 guy.

There is no "Spanish Reggae". There is "reggaetón", a genre that came out of Panama nearly 40 years ago and was adopted in Puerto Rico and then... all of Latin America. It's not the same as the kind of songs and styles that made for Tanner's success at Power.

False. Reggaespańol is the genre that rose out of Panama. And is referred to as Spanish Reggae by some. It is not Reguetón or Reggaetòn. Both accepted spellings by the Real Academia Española. I’m not rehashing old debates with you.

There are many scholarly articles that refute your third party assertions. I’ll leave a few for anyone that’ll like to read from well researched knowledgeable authors.

The right answer is the one that the people who will make Power 96 succeed use, and they call it "I like that song".

This is a sidebar issue. Power 96 is not even going after the demo that listens to Reguetòn. And no one here is a well researched author on Reguetòn. That was the correct answer to Gleason’s assertion.
