WCBS FM Red White & You Weekend

WCBS FM is saying This weekends playlist was created by the listeners. I’ve heard one 1 song out of the ordinary so far . Otherwise it’s the same playlist I hear every day.

If that's true, I'd say that CBS-FM ignored any "oh wow" requests it received and cobbled the playlist together from requested songs that were already in the approved-for-airplay library. Probably a good idea seeing as how the holiday "weekend" this year was Thursday-Friday, and many listeners were back at work (and commuting) on Friday. Don't want to be playing stiffs during hours that matter to the advertisers, right? The station could have conceivably presented a more adventurous special on a Saturday-Sunday weekend, when the ratings don't matter as much.

Maybe it was because the listeners who participated just wanted to hear the tried-and-true hits? Shocking, I know...
The makes sense. But I think differently than most listeners . A good request is a song I haven’t heard in a long time. Their current & Daily playlist list is tired & Old.They need more variety

There's a song I really want to hear. Do I:
1. Submit a request to my local radio station and hope they'll play it, and that I'll be tuned in when they do.
2. Stream it immediately on Spotify.

Yes, it's fun to hear a cool "wow" song that you love on the radio. Those were the days...

The option has always been there to hear music when you wanted to hear it by buying a copy. If you own it, you don't need to be online, don't need to have a subscription, and don't have to enter your user name and password.

The difference between radio & streaming is that radio is a shared experience, while streaming is an individual experience. We used to be a country of shared experiences. But that's rapidly disappearing, because we're all locked up in our own private silos. So yes, shared experiences, when we all felt like we were together....those were the days.

There are so many reasons for the decline of shared experiences but the massive fragmentation of traditional entertainment media, the rise of extremist talk and agenda-driven political opinion outlets masquerading as news, and and the relentless malignancy of social media have certainly got to be the biggest factors.

Look inward. The media that used to unite us now divides us. Even something as once-universal as music is now polarizing.

They are playing some 'oh wow' songs once or twice an hour but yes how many more times do we have to hear we didn't start the fire and when doves cry

Thats 1 of the many reasons i love sports 202.4 million watched at least some of the Super Bowl it sure doesnt get much more shared then that.
