Troy Hayden Leaving Fox 10

Just a note that Stella Sun did the weather on Saturday and Sunday evening. Not too surprising since Ginger Jeffries did the weekday evening weather last week (and part of the week before), but it could be a sign of things to come. Jen Wahl has been doing the weather for the past week on Today in AZ. So, Lindsey Riley and Krystle Henderson have both been away for over a week (hopefully just on vacation).

Totally falls into the RUMOR category -- someone on FB claimed that Troy is going to be the new 4pm and 5pm co-anchor (eventually replacing Mark Curtis when he retires). They claimed that the 4:26am is just a publicity stunt to introduce him.

I guess we will see on Thursday, unless someone has insider information.

Saw a promo just now after the Olympic Opening Ceremonies & Mark Curtis plugging it as a "new, but recognizable face". I'd be shocked if it isn't Troy Hayden.

Another person who claims to be "in the know" is confirming the 4pm and 5pm anchor assignment for Troy Hayden at 12 News. The source claims he will show up on all the different newscasts for the 1st week and then settle into 4pm and 5pm.

I still am wondering why they they have apparently pulled Krysle and Stella off the am news and have posted jobs for an AM meteorologist and an AM Traffic Anchor.

OK, who is going to be up for the big reveal at 4:26am in the morning??? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Just a note, I will NOT be up at that time. If Troy is still there at 6:30am, then I will see him.

I didn't see this in time to tune in. But at 4:40 a.m. Troy is there.

And more...

As mentioned, Troy will be on most of today. He's working the 5 to 6 a.m. segment. He will be hosting an Olympics Zone at 7:30 p.m.

Website was updated at 12:01 a.m.!

There was a promo featuring Troy, Mark Curtis, Caribe Devine and Tram Mai. 12 News is boasting with the four, they have the most experienced anchor team in Phoenix. The "group has more than 100 years of journalism experience between them."

*I think it's a great idea, having Troy appear on multiple news programs/times. This show how everyone is committed to this new team.

At the end of 12News Today in AZ, Troy mentioned that, after the Olympics, he will indeed be joining the 4pm newscast with Tram Mai and the 5pm newscast with Caribe Devine. So, the FB "rumor" was true.

Also of note, there has been no sign of Krystle Henderson or Stella Sum on 12 News Today in AZ for almost a month now. Stella has been doing weekend pm weather and newly-engaged ("She said Yes") Krystle has been doing weather on 12 News at 1pm.

After years of watching Troy host Channel 10's morning show I saw very little evidence of his "journalism" although I liked him as a host. Journalism wasn't his responsibility on that show (I don't count reading headlines as journalism).

I was sorry to see him go especially to 12 as I never watch them. I wish him well though as he seems like a very nice guy.

Great point. They are hammering home 'journalism' a lot.

Honestly, I've only been here 20 of his 30 years at Fox 10. Was Troy a reporter before he became evening anchor and eventually morning anchor)?

I do point out that TEGNA's definition of journalism may be different than ours. Among the 4 member of their anchor team, Mark's background is sports and Caribe's background is weather (although she did report from every event under the sum on weekend mornings back in the day). Only Tram and Troy come from a news background and only Tram has done any real reporting in the past decade or so. At the end of the day, their job is to ANCHOR the news.

This is a tricky subject. Yes, Troy Hayden's main job is to anchor a newscast. But besides the 2-ish hours he's on camera, is he in the newsroom researching and writing articles and scripts? Does he go out and do interviews?

Maybe, at Fox10, Troy wanted to be a journalist and he was 'land locked' into being 'just an anchor.' He joined 12News because they will allow him to supplement anchoring with reporting. We will probably never know.

I was responding to Landtuna. I think we would all agree that morning host is often different than a hard journalist job. I'm thinking Tara Hitchcock on GMAZ in the old days.

I'm hoping Troy will have more opportunity to do some indepth reporting at 12 like Alison Rodriguez has.

Hey Former, we're good! I thought you & Landtuna brought up good points. And I love a good conversation.

The Journalist word is used, and some probably went to school for/have a journalism degree, but once they get stuck behind a desk, how often are they going out in the field?

I'm a Arizona Family Guy. How often does Scott Pasmore log stories? And is that a major part of his job as the GMAZ main anchor?

I'm also an ABC News Guy. World News Tonight anchor David Muir sometimes reports from national and international locations. Different than a 'local' anchor.

It is an interesting topic! 12 News has an abundance of talent right now and could allow some of their anchors to do more in-depth stories. Alison could take a few days per month to report stores, while Justin hold down the fort. Troy could take a few days per month to report stores and Jonathan McCall or Rachel Cold could fill in. Caribe could do a series on, say, climate change in Arizona, etc.

While I like AZFamily, their rotating carousel of anchors is driving me crazy (particularly in the evenings), but that's for the other thread...
