I'm starting to think that Good Karma wasn't honest with everyone, at least publicly. It WANTS to keep ESPN Radio running 24/7 on 1050. As said above, advertisers on ESPN Radio like to know their spots are getting cleared on a NYC station. OK, ratings aren't great but it's still on the air.
So that's why Good Karma knew it was NOT going to take the local shows off 98.7 and put them onto 1050. 1050 has to clear all those ESPN spots. Good Karma needed another outlet for local sports shows plus the Knicks and Rangers. But I wonder who approached who? Did Audacy say, "Hey Good Karma, we've got a 50,000 watt clear channel non-directional outlet for you when you leave 98.7"? Or did Good Karma say, "Hey Audacy, do you have any frequency you'd be willing to give up where we can relocate our local sports talk shows, along with the Rangers and Knicks"?
Maybe Good Karma thought it could make a deal to relocate WEPN-FM to 94.7? Here's a coincidence. Classic Hip Hop WXBK 94.7 has the exact same ratings as WCBS 880. They're both tied for #19. Or maybe Good Karma wanted 660 since everything on 660 is also on 101.9? Instead of WFAN, they could have used 660 for WHSQ? Still sports but this time its ESPN Sports.
