Randy Michaels Acquiring WOXY

Also, Randy is one of the most competent radio operators of all time. A first ballot hall-of-famer if there ever was one. He's a had a lot of high-profile wins and a few misses,
How about the misses on the project to do some multiple big market all news stations, which failed. His stay at WGN was destructive. The plan to form an Ohio State Network of markets of all sized was an absolute failure. There are a lot of such stories, more than the good ones, in the years after consolidation.

Buying a station that can't do well in either of two markets does not seem very smart.
but I wouldn't want to bet against him and I am excited he seems to be picking the bat up again in his home market. Few people in the modern industry have such deep knowledge in all the multiple areas of radio (engineering, management, programming, sales, etc.) like Randy.
I know dozens. I know of dozens more. Today, most of them are smart enough to have gotten out of radio.

Has anyone considered that he might keep it Spanish? That is a growing audience.
I think the existing operator is moving to the "other" Spanish signal and planning an association with another ethnic broadcaster to expand.

This is a very interesting take. The other Spanish signal in town is a translator, but maybe it moves to a bigger signal and the formats swap? This will be something to watch.

When you take a lot of big shots, you are inevitably going to miss some of of them. I don't think Randy was ever very hands on at WGN. The Merlin news stations were obviously a miss though.

WDJO? Would cover the Cincinnati metro very well with 2 (3?) translators. Can't imagine that Radio One would flip either WIZF or WOSL, but again, who knows. The 101.5 translator is for WDBZ 1230 (Radio One).

101.5 does not translate WDBZ. It's Spanish from WIZF-HD2. WDJO could be a possibility, but WCVG has a translator on 103.9 that is usually off the air and WGRI has the translator at 103.1

The advantage of keeping 97.7 Spanish is that it has coverage in both Cincinnati and Dayton. That peashooter on 101.5 does not even cover half of Cincinnati Metro.

From the satellite view I just looked at, WCVG appears to be gone, studio, towers, everything. As for WGRI, they seem to be doing okay, so I have my doubts about that one.

WCVG is on the air with an STA running a long wire at 50 watts. They need to keep the AM on to feed the 103.9 translator, even though the translator is either off the air or distorted. The FM antenna is on top of a church in Mount Auburn. I'm sure that could be improved. But, then if they are on 101.5, the 103.9 and 103.1 translators wouldn't be much of a difference.
