The Future Of 1050

What is being protected to the northeast? Second-adjacent WBZ?
I'd rather think the reason why the coverage is worse towards the northeast is that the ground conductivity of the land is poorer than the conductivity of the sea. The eastern end of Long Island is also outside of the contour.
The actual antenna pattern (from FCCInfo) doesn't have a deep null to the northeast, unlike the null to the southwest which is deep.

I would like to again make the point that the maps from FCCInfo.com lack the geographic points of reference that the ones at Michi's FCCinfo.org have, which makes it much easier to discuss things like this. Her maps are drawn using the licensed parameters, just like the ones at Cavell/Mertz.

Do you mean fccdata.org?

Do you mean fccdata.org?

Yes, I did. I had it correct in my earlier post and then got irritated by the implication that her maps were incorrect, so I posted in haste,

Thank you for catching that.

That part about WWRL and WNYM taking overflow Knicks and Rangers games was obviously copied-and-pasted from Wikipedia. And it needs to be updated.

When one team is on one signal (880, previously 98.7), the other team will be on the other (1050). Since ESPN Deportes went away on 1050, MSG no longer needs to farm out Knicks or Rangers conflicts to other outlets–except for the very rare occasions. And it is MSG who does it, as they produce the broadcasts and pays for the airtime.

And with the NHL season starting within the next month, we still don't know where the Islanders will fit into all this.

The "Islanders Listen Live" tile has been removed from the ESPN New York website and app.
It may be that they'll just have their flagship WRHU FM 88.7 (Radio Hofstra University).
