LACK OF TALENT?

MIX 96.1 was seeking for months a On air talent and producer for the Morning show, yet no one was ever hired and then they changed the morning show altogether.. I've noticed that stations like KRBE and Even Sunny often bring talents from smaller markets. so, it makes sme wonder if it's that hard to find good solid local Talents.

The reality is that, traditionally, radio has hired "upwards" from smaller and lower paying markets. Unless a talent from another station is so good and so popular you "have to have them" stations that have local talent at all will usually either hire from a smaller market or hire some one "downsized" in a comparable market.

Unfortunately, now we are seeing (to create a typical example) we are seeing a station in Tucson hiring a recently fired one from larger Phoenix where the bigger market person was at a station that no longer does certain shifts live.

Finally, many of those ads are place to be in compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity regulations in order to prove that they announce the positions so that anyone interested could apply. That often occurs even if the hiring decision has been almost totally finalized.

Noncompetes have been illegal since April:
For high-earning talents/on air personalities like Michael Berry or Raul Brindis, who earn over a million dollars, noncompete agreements can be more defensible and advantageous for both parties. In these instances, iHeartRadio and Univision allocated considerable resources to developing the personal brand, reputation, and public image of their talent, thereby closely aligning it with the company's identity.
For high-profile personalities, non-compete agreements can often be tailored to offer mutual protection for both parties.

My mistake, a district court ruled against the FTC’s noncompete ban
and the FTC is still deciding whether or not to appeal:
Another action by that illegitimate court. it will be overturned. What a waste of taxpayers dollars.

Unless you are being compensated to sit on the beach, a non-compete does everything for the employer and nothing for the employee.

Agreed! When I lived in California, I went for one job in the education industry that I found out in the interview had a 6 month noncompete, and I said no way.

I hope you knew that non-competes are illegal in California.

It's not if non-competes will stand in court or not but the cost of defending yourself upfront, assuming when you win, they'll actually pay your costs. And then there's the time involved that pays you nothing.

Believe me, if your an on-air talent similar to Raul Brindis or Michael Berry, you will be well-compensated after your departure, during your six months to a year of absence.

i signed a non compete at a station in the northeast.. i didnt know any better at the time, but i quickly wised up. after one of the staff left for a station JUUUSSSSTTTTTT outside that distance we were all forced under duress (and you can guess the outcome if we didnt) to sign which tripled the distance

i signed anyways, cuse there was no one within that new distance that i wouldve wanted to likely work for anyways

Not what i heard, RB was not compesated. Isnt the lawsuit against Univision was about, the contract had the option but TU didnt renew. RB was escorted out, thats not something you get compesation on.
