Dominican Baseball on La Mega 97.9

Tuning around, I heard WSKQ broadcasting a baseball game from the Dominican Republic: Águilas Cabeañas vs. Tigres Lel Licey.
I had never heard sports play by play on this station. Do they cover any other sports matches?

Apparently the game was being played at Citi Field.

They did the same last year.

Though I do love the play-by-play, I have to admit this is a turn off to non-Dominicans and might make them tune to WXNY.

So this is most likely just an annual broadcast event?
Is WXNY as focused on the Dominican community as La Mega? The two stations sound so similar.

Everyone in NYC is focused on the Dominican population. The Puerto Rican community has not grown since the late 60's and the 18-49 group is third generation and does not use Spanish. All other groups are too small (Colombians, Ecuadorians, etc.) or not well sampled by Nielsen (Mexicans).

There's a tournament going on in Miami, with teams from four winter leagues (Dominican, Colombian, Puerto Rican, Venezuelan) involved. The final is today -- a Puerto Rican team against one from Venezuela.

For the record, here's where you can hear Spanish sports play-by-play on the radio in the market...
  • 1050 WEPN: New York Jets
  • 1280 WADO: New York Giants, New York Knicks, New York Yankees, New York Islanders
  • 92.3 WINS-HD2: New York Mets
  • NYCFC Radio: NYCFC on TuneIn
  • Red Bulls LIVE Online Radio: New York Red Bulls on TuneIn
Yes. TuneIn carries two of the team's matches in Spanish. The rest? They don't have Spanish-language broadcasts at all.

I've been creating and crafting lists of sports radio rights by market, sports leagues, and teams so this is just based on research and knowledge I've obtained thus far.

How does WADO deal with conflicts? There's plenty of overlap in the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL schedules.

Jets are no longer on 1050. They are on 107.5 HD2.
