What station(s) will play Christmas music in the Upstate?

It’s worth noting that 102.9 The Lake in Charlotte and 97.7 The Brew in Asheville have both flipped to all-Christmas, but iHeart did not do the same with WMYI.

I’m guessing they don’t want to cede any audience to WROQ, likely among other reasons. They’ve never gone all Christmas as The Lake that I can recall.

The reason to flip to Christmas music is to get more listeners/ratings. WMYI is doing just fine already. They don't need it. And, yes, those of us who don't want to hear Christmas music would leave to go to WROQ or some stream somewhere.

im not sure playing all christmas gets the spike in listenership it did a couple of decades ago. most of the christmas holidays are out of the fall ratings period now and happen before the winter ratings begin. all christmas gives sales departments the opportunity to sell christmas related advertising and sponsorships to businesses that typically would not advertise the rest of the year. its really about money

Then in that case, I feel like 104.9 WROO should flip to Christmas music, and then another format, considering WROO’s abysmal ratings.
iHeart may feel Christmas on 104.9 would hurt WMYI which is consistently top 3 or 5 along with their country stations. They do adult hits and AC/Christmas in a few other markets, though, and those are generally less rock leaning adult hits stations too. Heck, they do adult hits and classic rock in the same cluster in Charlotte.

104.9 should go back to Real Rock or even Alternative since X98.5 is on such a limited signal and sounds like crap these days. AC is the most logical choice, but again, almost anything they do is sure to pull The Lake down. I wouldn’t want to give up having 3 of the top 5 stations in the market. But agree 104.9 is a disaster, The Fan is better but doesn’t perform that much better being on the limited translator and AM signals. 104.9 is a C3 but has pretty good range in the market outside of Anderson.

You can receive 102.9 the Lake from Charlotte in Spartanburg until the Greenville translator begins to interfere. But definitely a void for All Christmas without Magic.

I forgot, WKVG will probably go all-Christmas for the Thanksgiving weekend. K-LOVE normally blends classic Christmas songs in with religious/CCM ones as well.

HISRadio flipped the switch to all-Christmas. Seems like they’re playing more secular classics than in years past. TSO, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Michael Buble, Mannheim Steamroller, Harry Connick Jr., Carpenters, Gene Autry, etc mixed in with some CCM artists.
Similar to WFSH in Atlanta which is also a market where the CCM station is the de facto all-Christmas station.
