The reason to flip to Christmas music is to get more listeners/ratings. WMYI is doing just fine already. They don't need it. And, yes, those of us who don't want to hear Christmas music would leave to go to WROQ or some stream somewhere. It’s worth noting that 102.9 The Lake in Charlotte and 97.7 The Brew in Asheville have both flipped to all-Christmas, but iHeart did not do the same with WMYI.
I’m guessing they don’t want to cede any audience to WROQ, likely among other reasons. They’ve never gone all Christmas as The Lake that I can recall.
Then in that case, I feel like 104.9 WROO should flip to Christmas music, and then another format, considering WROO’s abysmal ratings. The reason to flip to Christmas music is to get more listeners/ratings.
iHeart may feel Christmas on 104.9 would hurt WMYI which is consistently top 3 or 5 along with their country stations. They do adult hits and AC/Christmas in a few other markets, though, and those are generally less rock leaning adult hits stations too. Heck, they do adult hits and classic rock in the same cluster in Charlotte. Then in that case, I feel like 104.9 WROO should flip to Christmas music, and then another format, considering WROO’s abysmal ratings.
You can receive 102.9 the Lake from Charlotte in Spartanburg until the Greenville translator begins to interfere. But definitely a void for All Christmas without Magic. It’s worth noting that 102.9 The Lake in Charlotte and 97.7 The Brew in Asheville have both flipped to all-Christmas, but iHeart did not do the same with WMYI.
