KSFO To 810

More Cumulus changes as the company will move KSFO's programming to 810 starting Monday...

What becomes of the 560AM signal? And, this gives Cumulus the opportunity to stop using the KGO calls, which likely had an expiration date, as they were sublet from Disney TV.

Prediction: Bloomberg programming pops up on 560.

I think this is a good move for KSFO.

Whoever was paying to lease 810 evidently realized sports gamblers have little use for the Ancient Modulation band. I assume the existing agreement is due to expire soon.

Legitimately was thinking of this the other day. Wondering if it would be an option at some point if they wanted to drop the sports betting.

Well, all of Cumulus' formerly significant AMs like WLS seem to be all in on conservative talk, so why not, I suppose.

I wouldn't consider it KGO. I know David E and others have explained why KGO wasn't as viable, but putting what 560 currently programs and calling it KGO is still both useless AND somewhat insulting to its heritage. No one who liked what KGO was thinks they're equivalent products in tone or substance.

Why would KGO in name only be great?
I like the idea of returning KGO to News/Talk, even though it's a mostly syndicated lineup of Conservative talk. The legendary KGO will never come back, anywhere on the dial, but this restores the legacy of talk radio to 810. Which has a more storied history than 560.

What happens to the 560 frequency? Is that where the KGO calls and sports betting will go? Or an unannounced new format...

Possibly they simulcast on 560 and 810 for a very short time in order to get people to transition to the new frequency. Subsequently you would hear an announcement regarding 560.

KSFO was also on KSAN-HD2, at least as of the last week of October.

I don't think there's an official word yet on what happens at 560.

I know it doesn't mean much, but no call letter change applications would appear to have been filed for either station at the present time.

I agree with Mark Roberts, the most likely scenario would be a simulcast, while migrating the KSFO crowd to 810. Which makes me believe this will be 810 KSFO. Easier, and less confusing for the KSFO listener, and would need to only replace the 560 with 810 in that red and blue logo. Cheap and easy, the way Cumulus likes it.

I would certainly hate to see the KGO call letters disappear, just too legendary to just get rid of. They can be moved to KSFO, right?

Alternatively, there could be a loop on 560 telling listeners to tune to 810. There are multiple possibilities, of course.

It’s actually logical to move to the bigger signal. I don’t think big gains will result but KSFO could eke out a little bit of a gain.

Looking at other 3 letter calls that were moved to a different frequency, it is certainly allowed. But will Cumulus want to pay the $400 or more (for both to swap) to do that? But hey, if they keep it in place as is, it wouldn't cost them anything!

KOY Phoenix from 550 to 1230 in 1999 is one example.
