KSFO To 810

I predict 560 will go dark and Cumulus will turn in the license. AM isn't sustainable in SF anymore, except for KCBS (which most listen to FM 106.9 anyway), and KNBR (which most listen to 104.5).

KSFO call to 810 . . . amazing, but that is radio today.

As I said before I lived less than a mile from KGO's 810 xmtr site and lucky for me I was in their null, the one that went east. I recall often their engineering people would come into my neighborhood, I'd see them about a 1/4 mile from my home checking the DA's pattern parameters, on a small island in the middle of a two- way street.

560 is a great signal, and still has value. They could always sell or lease it to an ethnic broadcaster like Punjabi Radio for example. I'm sure KVTO, KEST, or KMKY would love to upgrade to 560.

I'm still confused. Is is just a swap of formats between KSFO and KGO, or are the call letters moving too?

All we know for sure is the KSFO shows are moving to 810:

Does this mean “The Spread” is moving to the KSFO signal? A Cumulus representative did not immediately respond to RBR+TVBR‘s request for comment.

Lots of unanswered questions. The move happens Monday

FCC Data shows the latest application related to KSFO was in 2022, and no indication of turning in the license. KSFO's current license expires in 2029.

Congrats to Cumulus for this. Not shocking to hear that KSFO is moving to 810. Wasn't there a contract as a result of the sale of KGO to Citadel now Cumulus nearly two decades ago that the call letters like KGO, KABC and WLS would expire and return to Disney.

Looking at other 3 letter calls that were moved to a different frequency, it is certainly allowed. But will Cumulus want to pay the $400 or more (for both to swap) to do that? But hey, if they keep it in place as is, it wouldn't cost them anything!

KOY Phoenix from 550 to 1230 in 1999 is one example.
You don't have to go very far. Remember KSFO/KYA-FM?

The KSFO lineup is 100% syndicated talk. They can't afford to even do a measly morning show. At this point, it doesn't matter whether its KSFO or sports betting. Both are garbage, existing to keep the license alive.

Interesting that market #4 does not have a local conservative talk host, anywhere. But then, that's one thing I don't mind missing from radio.

Not likely. AM is actually better in the Bay Area than in most places. Secondly, the 560 signal’s coverage is better than half of the AM signals on the air. I can see a religious broadcaster jumping on it, like Relevant Radio should Cumulus choose to sell. Actually, I see them dumping 1050 before 560 in that case.

Actually they have two shows that are done locally in terms of covering mostly California topics. Did u even look at the program schedule before making the comment or.

There's clearly a reason Cumulus isn't talking about 560's future.

First, if they want the audience they have for the syndicated talk on KSFO to follow it over to 810, they're gonna need a few weeks of either a simulcast with a boatload of promos, or just a loop telling people that KSFO is now on 810.

After that, there'll be an announcement about what happens to 560.

I wouldn't be surprised if you don't see a call letter change until then. Just ID at "KSFO, KGO, San Francisco" and you're covered.

And then, when they're ready to take the training wheels off, the KSFO calls officially move to 810 and they tell us what's next for 560.

Given that they're saying, by this move, that 810 is more valuable to them than 560 (but not valuable enough for its own local programming), it could be leasing the 560 signal or selling the station outright.
