Cleveland TV Revolving Door

Even more new blood, though this time on 30th and Euclid as Kaylee Olivas joins WEWS as a reporter, coming over from KFOR NBC 4 in Oklahoma City.

Another new face on WEWS - reporter Caitlin Hunt, coming over from WTHI CBS 10 in Terre Haute, Indiana.

She's a local, growing up in North Canton and is an O.U. grad

WOIO has brought back Aria Janel to be the weekend AM anchor and reporter during the week.

She was at Reserve Square in 2020-21, went to Gray sister station WTOC CBS 23 in Savannah Georgia in 2022, and returned to 19/43 this month.

WKYC has added NEO native Chris Renkel as their new full time weekend sports anchor, coming over from WKRC CBS 12 in Cincinnati where he was the main sports guy.

WOIO/WUAB has also added some new blood to their sports department by bringing in Zach Keenean, coming over from KMOT NBC 10 in Minot, North Dakota. He's being used as a Swiss Army knife, as he's done some reporting, fill-in anchoring, high school football on RESN, and a bunch of production stuff behind the scenes.

So a repeat of 6pm news? Good grief!
Well not a repeat as much as a rehash.

Also, Katie Ussin has now joined Powers as the 6p co-anchor.

6p is considered the flagship newscast due to being paired up with network national news at 6:30 (except for Fox), thus is where the stations bring out their big guns and assemble the "Avengers" so to speak.

So for the sake of inventory, here's who is doing the 6p newscasts In Cleveland.

WKYC NBC 3

Russ Mitchell - anchor
Christi Paul - anchor
Betsy Kling - weather
Jay Crawford - sports

WEWS ABC 5

Rob Powers - anchor
Katie Ussin - anchor
Mark Johnson - weather
Jon Doss - sports

WJW Fox 8

Lou Maglio - anchor
Tracy McCool - anchor
Dante Jones - weather
Ken Carman - sports

WOIO CBS 19

Brain Duffy - anchor
Tiffany Tucker - anchor
Jason Nicholas - weather
Mark Schwab - sports

Now all of the stations have news at 4pm and 7pm (19's is on 43 due to Wheel of Fortune).
When you get right down to it, they all have 2 1/2 to 6 hour morning blocks, and basically 3 to 5 hour afternoon/early evening blocks for local news

AM
3 - 4:30-7a
5 - 4:30-7a
8 - 4-10a
19/43 - 4:30-7a (19), 7-9a (43), 9a (19)

PM
3 - 4-6:30p, 7p
5 - 4-6:30p, 7p
8 - 4-7:30p
19/43 - 3-6:30p (19), 7-8p (43 - including the weather show at 7:30)

^ Did they announce what will air in that timeslot?
It will be 1 of 2 things:

A traditional noon newscast (which channel 3 through the years has never really done outside of a couple of short lived trials)

Or

An infomercial, to make it a full hour's worth from noon-1p (as they already have one at 12:30)

What about the possibility of a syndicated show?

If a newscast was to come back to WKYC on middays, maybe they do it at 11am like they did for a while.

I didn't want to quote this, but couldn't figure out how not to.

Anyways TEGNA is getting rid of Directors and will eventually be all AI. Tens of thousands of jobs will be eliminated once the system is implemented. Per FTVlive.com.
