W232AL Being Sold

In a filing today, Bridgelight is selling their 94.3 FM translator to Educational Media Foundation for $430,000.
W232AL, licensed to Pomona, NY, has an interesting history, at one time decades ago being part of Gerry Turro’s “Jukebox Radio”. The transmitter site has bounced around from Pomona, to Stony Point, to Hartsdale, temporarily to Yonkers on an STA with flea power to keep the license alive, and most recently to Alpine, NJ.
The license is now in the process of being moved to Fort Lee, NJ from Alpine, NJ. The proposed 75 watt ERP will throw a decent signal over much of Manhattan, the Bronx and a bit of Queens.
But $430k?

Why would EMF need this translator? K-Love has a strong signal on WPLJ 95.5.
Is it possibly to be used to rebroadcast Air 1 in parts of Northern NJ? WARW 96.7 has a decent signal, but is probably weak in parts of the New York area.

I would bet this is for Air1. EMF usually pays based on their formula of folks in the coverage.
I am not privy to it but IMHO: it is most likely is based or per person in the 60db. Another plus the potential fund raising form folks that can afford Manhattan rent. They might have got a "deal" when you look at average incomes in zip codes in the 60 db.

It will be interesting to find out whether a 75 watt translator in Fort Lee, NJ would give Air1 a better signal in areas of Manhattan than WARW 96.7.

I wouldn't think that would be mutually exclusive. You can't look at these things linear but rather EMF placing another piece of a puzzle on the board. EMF has operational partnerships with other Christian brands such as Radio Nueva Vida and Boost Radio that could be in play if its a straight operational move, but also could be a piece towards a larger move.

Radio Nueva Vida was my first thought, but does the translator cover sufficient Spanish speaking demos?

Boost Radio seems to be in expansion mode. Worth keeping an eye on nationwide.

W276AQ on 103.1 interferes in parts of Nassau County with The Wolf 103.1.
I hope that W232AL will not interfere in the same general area with 94.3 The Shark.

They're moving it to Fort Lee at the same location as W276AQ (103.1). 1WTC would not work as it's likely too close to WJLK-FM.
Spacing is not an issue with translators. Can someone engineer an antenna that will not cause interference complaints with and will protect WJLK's 60 db on paper and not screw up the signal in NYC? Sooner or later they will either buy another NYC station or improve the translator's footprint. EMF has the funds to make it happen.

Not really. The original Hispanic Broadcasting station with about 10 times the power on the ESB could not penetrate most office and apartment buildings, even within about a 1 mile radius of the transmitter. You had to hold a radio up to a window in many places to hear it.

75 watts? Very difficult reception anywhere.

99 watt W276AQ 103.1, gets out quite well, for at least 15 miles. To the east, it interferes with WWWF (The Wolf) in Nassau County. W232AL 94.3, the translator that EMF is buying, will be moved to the same tower.

The 105.9 signal was/is a real dog.

W300EI 107.9 is 12 miles from my location and completely blankets WEBE with only 99 watts.
