Meruleo Media Sells Los Angeles TV Station To Church of Scientology

That article forgot to mention that it was the home of A&M Records for decades as well.

And prior to that CBS, which filmed "Perry Mason" there from 1962-1966. The network bought it from Red Skelton, who started his show there in 1959, and bought it in 1960. Red wanted more room and moved to Television City.

Before Skelton? "The Adventures of Superman" was filmed there when it was Kling Studios---the company Charlie Chaplin sold it to in 1953.

Proving (at least to me) that no one digs deep enough anymore to tell a complete history.

Scientology appears to be on a buying spree:

The Scientology Network has been based at the former studios of KCET on Sunset Blvd. They bought it in 2011. It's possible that with the new TV station, they've outgrown that space. There was a similar controversy when they bought the KCET studio:

Disney bought the intellectual property of the Muppets from the Henson estate about 20 years ago. But the family retained ownership of the studio. So it's the Henson family that is selling this studio property to the church:

When the studio was owned by A&M, the music recording studio on the lot was one of the best in town. A lot of the records released by the label were recorded in those studios. They would have album release parties and post-Grammy parties on the lot. The song "We Are The World" was recorded there after the 1985 American Music Awards.

A&M Records was sold to Universal Music Group, owned by the French media conglomerate Vivendi.

Revisiting this thread, and now Scientology is buying a studio. Can't wait for what KWHY will be within the next few months

And that is the problem with radio history pages on Wikipedia... that place is, to use the hackneyed expression, an inch deep and ten miles wide.

Follow up: Jim Henson Studio has been sold to John Mayer and his producer.

Earlier in this thread, it was reported that the studio had been sold to the Church of Scientology. The family said "not so fast."

Follow up: In another thread, KWHY applied to change it's call sign to KSCN, which means SCieNtology. My guess is within a month (or two) we might know the date where KWHY flips

On VHF-4 they have little to zero influx of OTA eyeballs ... on the cable side, they are only trying to get "must carry" status on a cable-tv medium that's bleeding eyeballs.
It's lose-lose for Hubbard's ilk.

KBEH can at least be received OTA even if it can't figure out what it wants to do, which is why Murello is holding onto it, it still has some semblance of value but not alot. Maybe only an edge of value better than KWHY's plight since bunny ear watchers can still receive it if there are any trying.

KWHY was always an also-ran operation throughout it's history, always dependent on someone else (be it Select-TV, Business News 22, etc.).
It has an interesting History but all is fleeting much like today.

I think "Virtual 22.1" should forget VHF-4 and try and piggyback off of someone else's UHF signal if that's possible...

KBEH shares VHF channel 4 with KWHY. Their signals are identical.

Then that is very intresting since I get KBEH pretty well but KWHY went dark ever since they moved to VHF-4, even with rescanning.

Edit to add... Nope, scratch that I can't get either. I confused KBEH-63 with KILM-64 which I do receive.

Bumping this thread to share that as of this past Sunday (2/2), the KWHY callsign has been resurrected on channel 63.
And I noticed recently that they have created a new subchannel -- channel 63-22 -- filled with Spanish programming, a clear nod to the former KWHY audience. (Channel numbers 63-5 through 63-21 are invalid, so 63-22 sticks out in a very obvious fashion.)
