"Potential New Operator" For 98.7

One would think the "new" service would be able to do a press release today.

Maybe. It took a while for the entire story about the TJ show to be told.

United Stations has BOB FM and HANK FM as 24 hour formats. Unless they are going to debut a totally new format, it's probably one of those two.

They also syndicate a number of morning shows like TJ. There's also Broadway & Company, which is a country morning show. Or Lex & Terry, which is an active rock show.

@Lance: Audacy wanted 94.7 to fill a niche reaching 25-54 listeners that Country wasn't doing that would also not hurt WNEW or WCBS-FM.

Not working

It WAS a great show… 30 years ago.
What's wrong with it now versus what it was like 30 years ago, besides Taint not being on any more? Southern Justin isn't on there either but he was a one trick pony and the show is better without him. He was too stupid to even make messing up the games funny.

Well, 30 years ago, it was just a local show on WFYV Rock 105 in Jacksonville, FL. It was just two guys having a good time, being funny, and being real. Somewhere along the way, they added characters and smut. They didn’t need to head in that direction. It just sounds contrived now.

Emmis Chairman Jeff Smulyan called the launch of the station an easy decision. “We’ve been trying to sell our last two stations in New York, but when ESPN/Good Karma moved to AM after the LMA, we thoroughly reviewed the New York market and saw a significant opportunity for a Spanish AC format playing English and Spanish hits from the 1980s to 2000s. We believe the opportunity was too good to pass up and have spent several months preparing for the launch.”

@Mykel the Radio Fan I was hearing Jax "Victoria's Secret." Maybe that was on the stream only? Then again, they abruptly cut from Sia's "Cheap Thrills" to start playing the Jax song. Weird.

Great. Then the stream wasn't programmed different. They just crammed in three songs in a six-minute window before the launch. Very sloppy.

This format that keeps popping up in different markets to me is just a hype format I don't seen it working in the long run
It's worked for about 7 decades all over Latin America, including Puerto Rico, USA, where stations like Fidelity, KQ-105, Mega and Hot all play some or lots of English songs with everything else in Spanish.

My first station in Quito played about 40% U.S. top 40 songs in English. But not all the hits in the US were hits in Ecuador.

This format will work in markets where there are lots of middle and upper income Hispanic first generation immigrants. New York is not one of them.

Who cares? The prior listeners will be gone, and the new ones, other than us, are not there.

It'll be interesting to see if Emmis elects to subscribe to Nielsen. I guess it depends on how long they expect to do this.

Based on the quote, it sounds like he intends to sell this format to advertisers, so he'll likely need some numbers to do that.
