WPLF Shelter Island NY (103.3)

The station is located near Noyack, NY, a few miles west of Shelter Island.
The 10 year old article linked below was apparently written around the time that another broadcaster expressed interest in the frequency, 10 years ago. So it probably took a decade for 103.1 to become available at auction, sold to EMF, and (recently) signed on.

In the Beginning

Ok yes, and from the Radio-Locator page above, there is no former call sign history and the format is "unknown" making this look like a brand new signal.
I also noticed their antenna is quite low at the site (33 feet) so maybe they used the very bottom of the tower or even the roof of the tx building to get on the air.
Interesting how this license for a little island has this long delayed signal & of course its EMF (KLove Inc.) right out of the gate.

They're on the tower along with WHFM and WRLI in Southampton.

I just noticed on the K Love station map that this is their new Eastern Long Island signal. Haven't heard about this from RadioInsight or elsewhere.
A sign-on of a new K-Love (or most other network signals) at the east end of Long Island is not newsworthy. Through the FCC reports, I've covered the acquisition of the CP in the FCC auction, signal modifications, and request of call letters. There is also another signal in the east end that recently began broadcasting, but is at extremely low power and is supposed to have its "official" launch shortly in WLNG's new sister 94.5 WLIE.

May I recommend using @Michi's FCCData.org. Unlike Radio-Locator, which is not fully accurate in how it covers signals (off-air CP's do not exist in their world), you'll see the entire facility record.

I mostly get my news from Lance from x.com which I check often and appreciate format change news or station sales when Lance knows before they are filed with the FCC. When a station files a license to cover license modification that information is available at fcc.today - your dashboard to the FCC Media Bureau which I check several times a day. So I understand why that does not necessarily need to be reported at radioinsight.com. But often just a license to cover does not mean the station is on the air. I would be interested if Lance knew if a new station was on the air and what format it signed on with including HD subchannel sign-ons, sign-offs, or format changes.

There is a lot of news not reported that I am interested in and I have to check this radio discussion site to find. For example, I just read about a new sign-on of 2 classical stations in Hawaii I would have liked Lance to report. I mostly only care about non-commercial radio and I think radioinsight mostly focuses on commercial radio unless it's big news. Also, Lance can't know everything so his site helps a lot in finding more radio news.

On the other hand, about half the news Lance reports on I have no interest in. I do not care about announcer news (this person retired, was fired, or left or was hired) which takes up at least half the site. I wish I did not have to see it and that it could be on a different website. I do not know why people want to know all this announcer news. Maybe it helps people in the radio business while my interest is just a hobby. I think Lance was possibly trying to take over that from other sources that have shut down.

At fcc.today, they recently gave an option to remove consummation notices. I like consummation notices unless there are a lot of them by an owner who only has a change of interest. At least we have the option to turn them back on. But I wish we could turn off renewal filings, CPR's, and EEO's. All those are annoying. I am probably leaving something else out I wish I could hide. I just want to see station sales, consummations, license modifications, license to covers, silent notices, and call sign changes.

Interesting that you're talking about me in the third person while I'm right here and could just ask...

RadioInsight is what is considered an industry trade publication, one that happens to now be the most widely read in the radio industry. Our primary focus is on those who work in radio or ancillary businesses reporting on the topics that matter to them. But because of my background as a radiogeek who founded this site as a teenager, I also look at it from that background plus my lifelong obsession with format changes (see Home - Format Change Archive where I have audio of over 1000 flips and launches archived) to serve those who may be more just fans (but that is a secondary focus).

But I am also a one person operation... If I haven't reported on a launch it may simply be because I'm not aware of it them like those in Hawaii you mentioned. While I'm the only industry publication that does dig for information and yes these board do assist, there are a lot of areas where it is simply impossible to get information especially in smaller markets as stations don't just tell you anything, may not have any kind of web or social media platform which is why I also build and consult on developing station websites. or it takes years to get on PR lists of even larger operators commercially and non-commercially. Even large companies such as Townsquare Media do not put out press releases for anything anymore.

Lance has built up a pretty formiddable business and to be honest? For the longest time, even before another even longer existing website that started with the first letter of the alphabet went out of business... I went to RI first for news. RI covers what I care about. People, tech stuff, format changes. AllAccess had morphed into alot of record/music news that i couldnt imagine anyone outside of a very smal lsubset cared about

Lance doesnt publish everything people send him (ask me how i know that! :) ).. Allaccess did.

Lance actually digs, does some investigative work. Few if any other sides except maybe RBR or whatever its called and insideradio does... and neither cover tech stuff as in depth as lance does really.

Lance covers what people wanna read.

And no, im not just saying this to curry any kind of favor. Its one of the only two industry websites I've paid for on a regular basis that I feel i get more than my moneys worth out of. Im kind've a cheapskate so paying for website memberships isnt something I do very often at all
