WRFY BOOMING IN

Did anyone else notice in the last few days WRFY has been like a local. I used to listen in Queen Village all the time many years ago when they were more classic rock but for some reason they were cut down to 10kw and lost coverage then recently another annoying LP or lator or whatever came on and they really went bye bye. In the last few days though flipping around the dials they came in loud and clear no sign of the LP thought it was a fluke but nope its steady in fact drove to Toms River and they were still coming in. My question did anyone else try it, what happened to the LP and did they boost power from 10kw....

I think that W273DO should have been a simulcast of WRFY. A lot of people commute from Reading and the 422 corridor into Philly. Simulcasting them effectively makes Y102 a Philly station. The translator would act as a booster

Toms River is possibly the best location in New Jersey for great FM DX. When I visit going to Seaside/Lavallette in the Summer, WALK 97.5 and WBLI 106.1 from Patchogue, NY are local sounding a lot of times, little to no interference from the Philly signals that are 30 miles closer. Both stations are 85 miles away by air! You can get almost every NY/Philly/AC/Wilmington, DE station under normal conditions.

Maybe that's what is going on now....they are still like a local, no sign of the former W273DO, now if that move in flamethrower W241CH can go away we can get Cat Country once again.....

In Toms River, what about reception of W273AO?
It's translator for WYRS, but their recent Addition / Simulcast of WLNJ on 91.7 near the New Egypt Speedway kinda makes that 102.5 translator redundant. I would think W273AO's 40 watt signal in Whiting, Manchester Twp, does well on 37, west of the Parkway, and Especially into Lakehurst, where WLNJ's 91.7 is Licensed (COL). I used to live in Manchester, over 20 years ago, before WYRS expanded coverage onto 91.7/102.5 and even WYRS on 90.7 was a weaker signal than it is now. Still No WYRS Stream?

I think they are now on the 102.5 translator on the old PEN-FM site on the Architects building, I was driving past it and they were loud and clear...

iHeart filed a silent STA for W273DO today stating "The building owner unexpectedly removed the antenna support tower. We are assessing options for returning the station to air with alternate facilities. "

does that mean wrfy will be gone again to the bet format, this proves wrfy's signal has great range and got wiped out when this translator was allocated. Does anyone else here dislike translators and LP.'s...why the FCC allows these pirates to just move in and block out a legit signal is beyond me..$$$$$$$. There are at least 7 signals I cannot receive due to these move ins.

The radio dial is built for DXers. Just because you know WRFY is there, doesn't mean the other 99% of the public does. And guess what, all those stations you cannot receive that you may have 20-30 years ago are all available to stream anywhere...

theyre also not pirates

theyre also not pirates

to me and many others, they are doing the same thing by blocking out and over riding long time signals, only thing is they are doing it legally?? by any means either above or below the law.

the problem is, as someone else said... the dial isnt for dxers and what you enjoyed was a bonus beyond protected contours. if they caused interference inside areas they shouldnt, it wouldnt have been granted

Its important to stick to the proper terminology because it can easily confuse people who arent as knowledgeable about broadcasting and further muddy the waters

things can be done if enough people complain, as in the case of wvlt when the lp came on outside of philly on 92.1 it wiped wvlt out even in parts of NJ, even thought the xmtrs were around 50 - 60 miles apart complaints flooded the fcc and they were shut down.....here are a few stations that were listenable clear in the area that now are wiped out since these move ins were approved wzzo/wbbo/wchr/wthj/wcto/wode/wlev/wrfy/waeb/ due to all the new signals with a directional se pattern going into south jersey...

99% of translators operate within the letter of the law including the one in question. IF iHeart wanted WRFY to be heard on 102.5 in Philadelphia they would have WRFY's programming on an HD subchannel to feed the translator.

But because @wibgradio99 says what the translator is doing is illegal because it blocks his reception of WRFY where it was NEVER meant to be heard, it must be illegal...

What do you not understand about the fact that philly is well outside the local (red) or distance(purple) service areas on radio locator and what you had was a bonus?

Its like me hearing a 250 watt translator like a local 40 miles away every day in PA... why? Because i had extreme height and so did the translator... but someone couldve lit up a translator sound of me, blocked out reception of the translator.. and it wouldve been legal, as i was wellll outside the contour of the 250 watt translator 40 miles away because height and atmospherics not accounted for in a coverage map came into play

I remember when wvlt was wiped out of the northeast and even west of 295 in NJ due to the translator in Horsham. As you stated, VLT was able to get enough people to complain in order to shut down that translator. I thought after the Geator passed they would update their format as he brought in quite a bit of money to that operation but they’re still hanging on playing oldies. They’ve given new meaning to the term “borrowed time” at this point but good for them.
