The fabulous, bewildering, insanity that is - the new ratings.

I have yet to see a market where the 6+ numbers look any different than they would have if the five minute rule had stayed. Cumes are higher, but stations aren't bouncing around outside of their normal range because of this.

Trading Luka was not good for KEGL. Not good for Dallas either. Great for the Lakers. I'm sure that's the main topic of conversation at The Ticket.

Friendly advice: Use a link instead of copying and pasting a page image. Keeps you away from the copyright police.

I have friends in bands that are dead broke because everyone has stolen their music. Go bark up that tree and let me see how far up it you get.

I think a screen shot of public information will be okay and I'm sure that site isn't making enough money to pay for server space, much less afford attorney fees.

Far worse for KEGL is that iHeart dragged out the pre-Freak version of The Eagle.
Not good for Dallas either.
Met with a bit of initial anger from the fan base, but it's the Mavericks. Unless they are in the Finals, not many Dallasites are really paying much attention to them.
Great for the Lakers.
Angelinos sure could use something to cheer for right about now.
I'm sure that's the main topic of conversation at The Ticket.
Repeat after me. This is Cowboys country. This is Cowboys country. The focus on 1310 has been, is now, and forever will be on the Silver Star. The Mavericks have certain segments dedicated to them, of course, but far, far away from being the main topic of discussion. Are you kidding? With the season that the Cowboys just had? The main topic is how to get them back on track and not looking like the perennial flameouts that they've become. Certainly isn't the Mavericks.

I'd hazard a guess that there's a fair percentage of the DFW population who don't even know that Mark Cuban isn't the head guy calling shots anymore.

LOL

Sharing whole bits of copyrighted info has been axed here before by the mods, dude.

I feel that we’re encouraged to post links to Radio Insight on here, but the ratings from that website aren’t mobile browser friendly. They used to be, but the formatting changed maybe 6 months to a year ago or so. I usually read the recaps from Radio Insight and then head to Radio-Online to view the actual ratings. Not sure if that was the reason for the screenshot, but just an observation.

Okay, the Eagle is going nowhere fast.

What is your prescription, Kramer?
KVIL went back to the same well that made them kill The Eagle in the first place - playing KEGL's music in a way Dallas prefers to actual KEGL. Once again, KEGL doesn't have an answer and seems to be preferring to do nothing.

Within months of KEGL returning to Rock, KVIL brought back the 00's alt-metal songs and post-grunge anthems, as well as a small selection of Active-to-Alternative crossovers and eventually surged ahead in the ratings again. KVIL has been playing Active Rock darling Badflower as well as new music from Linkin Park, 311, and Shinedown in the last month - all of them KVIL standbys, and mixing them with the standard Alternative currents from other Audacy stations. KVIL also promoted Ian Camfield to mornings with a music-driven show and it's also helped with KVIL smacking KEGL around just like a couple of years ago.

KEGL's playlist is stagnant and directionless in comparison, and Ben & Skin remains a ratings albatross around KEGL's neck. They just have not resonated despite years of trying.

All of this has played on KVIL while Ben & Skin have been yapping for the last hour.

Everclear - "Santa Monica"
Audioslave - "Like A Stone"
Alanis Morissette - "You Oughta Know"
Dexter & The Moonrocks - "Ritalin" (current)
Puddle of Mudd - "Blurry"
Florence + The Machine - "Dog Days Are Over"
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Maps"
Breaking Benjamin - "The Diary of Jane"
311 - "Full Bloom" (current)
The Killers - "Mr. Brightside"
Green Day - "Brain Stew/Jaded"
Stone Temple Pilots - "Big Empty"
System of a Down - "Aerials"
Sum 41 - "Landmines" (recurrent)
Default - "Wasting My Time"

It's not hard to see why KEGL listeners went back to KVIL. It's the same crap on a different day, and they'd rather deal with KVIL sneaking in hipster indie here and there than nonstop yapping. Plus Nicole Alvarez (who's on right now), while not local, has a nice voice and a decent entertainer, and she's genuinely good at faking sounding local.

What's the solution for KEGL? They need to ditch Ben & Skin for starters, but that's something that's been batted about for years on this forum and it's clearly not going to happen until their contract runs out. Barring that, KEGL needs to freshen their playlist. KEGL only plays three currents, all of them by veterans of the Active Rock format - Papa Roach, Disturbed, and Shinedown. And KVIL is playing Shinedown themselves. KEGL has also let KVIL have sole ownership over Linkin Park's new material as well, and KVIL's got Linkin Park's "Heavy Is The Crown" on power rotation, complete with Emily Armstrong's lengthy scream untouched. There's some rising stars on Active Rock that could do KEGL some good, plus ditching the 1970's grandpa rock once and for all probably couldn't hurt. Kramer's said that KEGL needs to go heavy, which is where the Active Rock format in general is going with more metal and even some of the "butt rock" is getting more downtuned. And play the new Linkin Park - letting the alternative station have the band's new material lock, stock, and barrel is exceptionally dumb.

Either that or keep doing the same dumb crap and monotony that got KEGL killed in the first go-around.

They fired their PD in November. I don’t think he’s been replaced. That may explain it.
Yeah, it would. Means the station's been on autopilot for months and listeners may have noticed.

KVIL is not perfect for KEGL's audience - the fact they initially tried to give KEGL another shot (judging by the ratings reports) shows that KVIL isn't what they want their first choice to be. I'm sure a halfway decent PD with a solid plan for KEGL could defeat KVIL. The listeners are only going to KVIL because they have enough of the music they want to hear and the station's primary drawback for the heavy rock crowd (the hipster indie) isn't as bad as KEGL's drawbacks are. It's easier to sit through three minutes of The Lumineers than it is to listen to fifteen minutes of Ben & Skin's inane rambling.

Outside KEGL...

KBFB and KKDA-FM are tied, which seems like the first time KBFB has managed to tie them.

The various Christian music outlets have over a 10 share now. All of them now non-commercial outlets with K-Love taking over KLTY.

Speaking of auto-pilot, how LMN acquired and overpaid for KFZO/KFLC and other a bunch of dogs (AM outlets and a bunch of poor FM signals) from Univision and literally let them decline even more continues to amaze.

They got a couple of decent signals in KBTQ and KGBT, near the McAllen HQ, but yeah, the way the bigger metros of Houston and Dallas are being managed is quite the head scratcher.

Hey, but KLAT actually showed with a tenth of a point this last survey, so maybe there's hope internally that a few folks will happen across 1270 and go "que es esto aqui?" and spend a little time listening to it. It is 50kW, after all. Hell, I get 1270 here 90 miles east of DFW with little effort. It certainly couldn't do much worse than TUDN did full-time on the signal.

Before you know it, KFLC will be well on it's way to mediocrity.

KFZO has to go religious of some sort, in order to continue targeting the Metroplex, or someone in Sherman/Denison will have to swoop in and buy it, knowing full-well that it'll never be much more than a labor of love. The signal covers the wrong demographics for Spanish language programming. I'd imagine it's one of the main catalysts for 99.1 flipping formats more times than I can count, in the last dozen, or so, years.

I honestly think if iHeart moved The Eagle back to the HD2 and put The Edge on the HD1/analog, it would do better than what’s currently going on.

While splitting the audience with Alt?
Yeah! There’s a lot of overlap in this market. 92.5, 98.7, 100.3 and 102.1 all play a lot of the same stuff. I think we could do with 2 Alternative Rock stations.

I don’t think iHeart will ever dump the grandpa rock on 97.1 as long as it’s called The Eagle. I also don’t think the heritage name is doing as much for them as they think. Most people don’t care what the station is called as long as they play the music they like.

.

Now that's an amazing ironic note!!!

Just a thought, but with Nielsen going from 5 to 3 minutes would seem to bolster those stations with the higher cume and lower rating.
