Best/Worst/Most Interesting TV Station Logos

Later in the 1980s, most Seven Network stations adopted a look based on the NBC Nightly News, complete with The Mission by john Williams:

They rolled out The Mission in the fall of 1985, when I had gone to California on vacation.

I thought they had a different theme out there, until I got home and realized it was the same everywhere.

I know they're doing it for this age of streaming, but the current logos for the CBS TV O&Os are among the worst. Talk about drastic and not having a differentiated logo in a sea of alphabet-based networks, services, platforms, etc. While WCBS has retained its channel 2 reference (for now), the others are simply, e.g., "CBS Colorado" for KCNC 4, etc.

CBS as channel 2 is so iconic in New York, that I seriously doubt they'd consider messing with it.

FWIW, they also have a certain amount of co-branding with WLNY-55.

Allegro by Gari Media is best known as the TV News theme for ABS-CBN News in the Philippines. But its origins of Allegro News theme was originally made for KPIX-TV San Francisco when it was then owned by Westinghouse.

Here’s one that’s interesting WMAL-TV Washington DC had the Star 7 logo from 1970-1975. It’s one of a few TV Stations where star was used as its logo.

A year later, it was time for WJLA's competitor WTOP to change call letters--to WDVM (which would themselves be replaced with WUSA in the 1980s):

Is that rule still in effect? I thought AM and FM radio stations, and TV stations, could now have the same calls, even if not owned by the same company.

Or does it have to do with the properties being in the same market?

They can nowadays. WBZ (iHeart), WBZ-FM (Beasley) and WBZ-TV (CBS) in Boston all have different owners, though that situation only came about in 2017.

That's what I was thinking (not WBZ, just the situation in general). I didn't know when the rule went into effect.

Here is WTTG in the 1984-1985 season they used a logo that comes close to the current KTLA Logo. Note WTTG was owned by Metromedia during this time frame and KTLA in 1984-1985 season was about to be taken over by Tribune management when these clips came out.
