Back when I was HC1DG in Quito, any time I'd call a CQ in English, I'd get multiple responses instantly. A lot of people wanted an easy QSL to count the country. I had to opt for responding to other ham's CQ's if I just wanted to chat with someone and not be part of a country count or DX contest.Earlier this a.m. I heard a ham from Ecuador (HC5AI) calling CQ in the USB section of 20M, no takers except maybe one guy in the SE US I couldn't hear. It's very strange to hear DX and no US hams seem to be interested in contacting them, especially when most hams have really good rigs and beam antennas, and all I'm using is a Tecsun or Sangean with my indoor wire.
Is this a good radio (Deepelec DP-666)?
From what I'm reading, I get the impression that it's kind of like a digital version (albeit with much greater functionality) of the old GE Superadio, a truly fine unit. I had one but sold it when my son was very young, money was tight and I needed to raise some cash (sold my RadioShack HTX-252, I think it was, as well).
SomeRadioGuy: There's a lot less ice and snow on the river this pic than the one you posted a month or two ago!
DX: earlier this a.m. I heard KBCV, Hollister MO, on my Tecsun PL-330 with my AN200 loop. First time I have heard KBCV in over 11-12 years. Nothing else remarkable on the MW band, though.... Didn't check the SWBC bands. HF ham bands were spare at best. Heard a Kuwait ham two evenings ago on 20M USB, working EU stations I couldn't hear. No American ham QSO's on the band though. "Rock It" 100.5 weak copy.
Unknown station on 100.9 mentioned "Hwy 61." That could be GA or possibly TX but conditions aren't as good as a couple days ago. My guess is GA. Until two days ago I had never gotten anything on 100.9, it was a total ghost town. One frequency with no activity heard is 96.3.
Thanks Kyle, appreciate it! 100.5 can also be a fringe frequency, although I often get WFCX in Apalachicola.96.3 would likely have WJIZ from South Georgia (Hip Hop) and i heard them as far north as about near Columbus Georgia, also heard into parts of Alabama, including Eufaula and Dothan & South into Florida as well, reaching Tallahassee, along I-10 & US 319.
Also, just few years ago, I remember a pretty strong signal from 104.1 WGLF from the Tallahassee area - Was Easily Heard About 100 Miles away around Tifton GA and ever further - up to about Waycross & Macon GA as well. Soon afterwards, I heard them again, via tropo, From Over 350 miles Away in Upstate SC, Just A few miles South of the NC Border, Off I-26, near Inman.
The DP666 has a weak point.. the antenna connection on the inside of the box.. ive had several fail and what breaks isnt an easy fix.
the radio and the others caleld TEF6686 use the TEF6686 chip, its made for automobiles which are the best there is. even better than ATS25, etc radios.
Is it this one?So far one of my favorites interms of reliabiltiy is the FB-280 version of the TEF6686..
