9819.whatever Brazil, Radio 9 De Julho 0345UTC May 13 with modulation for once! Usually they sound as bad as Cuba and Iran. Hearing what sounds like contemporary Christian music in Portuguese. Supposedly 10kw non directional from Sao Paolo

WBZ 1030 Boston from the Hanna, AB SDR. KTWO usually is what comes in west of the Rockies.

Is this a good radio (Deepelec DP-666)?

From what I'm reading, I get the impression that it's kind of like a digital version (albeit with much greater functionality) of the old GE Superadio, a truly fine unit. I had one but sold it when my son was very young, money was tight and I needed to raise some cash (sold my RadioShack HTX-252, I think it was, as well).

SomeRadioGuy: There's a lot less ice and snow on the river this pic than the one you posted a month or two ago!

DX: earlier this a.m. I heard KBCV, Hollister MO, on my Tecsun PL-330 with my AN200 loop. First time I have heard KBCV in over 11-12 years. Nothing else remarkable on the MW band, though.... Didn't check the SWBC bands. HF ham bands were spare at best. Heard a Kuwait ham two evenings ago on 20M USB, working EU stations I couldn't hear. No American ham QSO's on the band though. Earlier this a.m. I heard a ham from Ecuador (HC5AI) calling CQ in the USB section of 20M, no takers except maybe one guy in the SE US I couldn't hear. It's very strange to hear DX and no US hams seem to be interested in contacting them, especially when most hams have really good rigs and beam antennas, and all I'm using is a Tecsun or Sangean with my indoor wire.

Back when I was HC1DG in Quito, any time I'd call a CQ in English, I'd get multiple responses instantly. A lot of people wanted an easy QSL to count the country. I had to opt for responding to other ham's CQ's if I just wanted to chat with someone and not be part of a country count or DX contest.

5/18 10:20 AM CST 100.5 WHHZ Newberry,FL (Gainesville area). 44kw 469 ft.
"Rock It" 100.5 weak copy.

Unknown station on 100.9 mentioned "Hwy 61." That could be GA or possibly TX but conditions aren't as good as a couple days ago. My guess is GA. Until two days ago I had never gotten anything on 100.9, it was a total ghost town. One frequency with no activity heard is 96.3.

The DP666 has a weak point.. the antenna connection on the inside of the box.. ive had several fail and what breaks isnt an easy fix.

the radio and the others caleld TEF6686 use the TEF6686 chip, its made for automobiles which are the best there is. even better than ATS25, etc radios.

So far one of my favorites interms of reliabiltiy is the FB-280 version of the TEF6686.. it has a BNC antenna connection not an SMA.. an SMA is a weaker connection and the FB feels turdier build

96.3 would likely have WJIZ from South Georgia (Hip Hop) and i heard them as far north as about near Columbus Georgia, also heard into parts of Alabama, including Eufaula and Dothan & South into Florida as well, reaching Tallahassee, along I-10 & US 319.

Also, just few years ago, I remember a pretty strong signal from 104.1 WGLF from the Tallahassee area - Was Easily Heard About 100 Miles away around Tifton GA and ever further - up to about Waycross & Macon GA as well. Soon afterwards, I heard them again, via tropo, From Over 350 miles Away in Upstate SC, Just A few miles South of the NC Border, Off I-26, near Inman.

Thanks Kyle, appreciate it! 100.5 can also be a fringe frequency, although I often get WFCX in Apalachicola.

Apparently the NW FL Panhandle area is so big, that I didn't Realize There's Actually 2 huge 100kw Stations Covering the area on 104.1 - perhaps 250+ miles on I-10 / From AL State Line - to the I-75 exit ... A recent visit I was exiting the area thinking I would be able to hear the strong WGLF over 100+ miles from 331 bridge near Freeport FL - Instead heard a different 104.1 (WDLT) from west of the area ... But did find WGLF thru static once above the PCB area off I-10 at the US 231 exit & going north into Alabama

Thanks for the info, I may have to get one of these if I can ever pick one up on the cheap.

An automobile radio chip would indeed be good.

Some long-awaited E-skip DX recordings from 2024, and there's at least ten more to come:

Why didn't I include this?

Saturday 5/18 I had my first Es catch in Cascade. 92.1 KCMT Green Valley, AZ; La Caliente on the RDS around 9pm. Weak opening brought them, plus weak UNIDs on 88.5, 91.3 and 92.9 (probably all Tucson, 88.5 was religious hymns and was likely KVCC, the VCY station). 909 miles and 50KW. The signal got up to a peak of 40 on the dB meter, so I can tell that the 4-element is a hotrod for skip too.

Today is Friday and it's our usual "Friday off" from the school, so I DXed a little bit of the normal aircraft scatter/tropo scatter. Had KRXF Bend and KDBL Toppenish on 92.9 all within a minute and a half, as well as KZML-95.9 Quincy (Regional Mexican) and KSJJ-102.9 Redmond...nothing new but the KDBL signal was the strongest yet, at 251 miles and 17KW. These are NORMAL catches here. Apologies to everyone who lives in IBOC and translator hell :giggle:
