... And its FM translator. There's lots of music formats on "AM" but meaningfully all the audience is using the translator. Like many such stations, this one brands only by its translator, as "97.3 The Rattler."They’ve got classic rock on AM in Arizona, with KBSZ

Amazing! How do he do it?And here's one of the last practitioners of the art---Broadway Bill Lee at WCBS-FM:

No, that reminds me of that “Voice of Gold Country” station that I heard going up to my uncle’s house near Sacramento“When you're out prospecting, you're in Gold Country. Gold Country 560.”
Country Gold was tried on 1260 here in SoCal...it didn't work. Not a bad idea. Imagine "Country Gold" 560
I don't understand why a great talent like this is banished to doing the 7pm to midnight shift. I understand he was doing PM drive for years. And here's one of the last practitioners of the art---Broadway Bill Lee at WCBS-FM:

“I’m almost too excited and delighted to debut ‘Nights on Broadway,’ evenings on WCBS-FM,” said Lee. “This brings me full circle in my career to when I made a name for myself, being the night jock on several great radio stations, and I’m looking forward to expanding the show to include requests and dedications as I continue my aim to entertain your brain.”

That does make sense, considering his age. The night shift at least allows for more listener interaction (requests, dedications), and less restrictive.WCBS moved Bill to 7-midnight a year and a half ago. Quote from Bill:

Jesse Addy Joins WCBS-FM For Afternoons; Broadway Bill Lee Moves To Nights
Audacy Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM New York has announced that Jesse Addy will join the station as Music Director andradioinsight.com
As to why---Bill's been at WCBS-FM for 18 years, on the air for 53. He's (based on references he's made in interviews I've read) 73 years old. That's an age at which both he and WCBS-FM would not be considered crazy to start thinking about eventual retirement.
And LA is more country friendly than the Bay Area in my view. But you shouldn't compare 1260 in LA to 560 in SF. Also, 560's transmitter location lends to strong coverage is some of the least country friendly areas of the Bay Area including: The City, the more urban areas of Alameda County and the northern Peninsula.Country Gold was tried on 1260 here in SoCal...it didn't work.
You do realize that the reason that’s not still on 560 is that Hamilton crushed it when he crossed the street to 99.7 and played the same music—-560 AM needs good music, good imaging, and Bob Hamilton "type" DJ's who are uptempo and entertaining. You have to give people a valid reason to listen.
I don't think any of the stations Cumulus shut down this spring have had a buyer emerge in the last 3 months. This isn't just a San Francisco thing. It looks like AM radio in the bay area has declined to the point that no one is interested in purchasing a great signal located at the preferred low end of the dial in a major market. Seriously, NO ONE seems to be interested.
