Jeff Lynn of Barrett Media wrote an opinion article that country radio should do more for its legends while they're alive:

My question to Jeff is: Do you actually listen to country radio? Do you know that radio stations are actually doing everything you're talking about right now. All Audacy country stations run a four-hour classic country show every Sunday morning. If you look at Mediabase, which monitors the music radio plays, you'll see that artists like George Strait, Garth Brooks, and Alan Jackson are among the most-played artists in country music. None of them have current songs out. That airplay comes from their gold catalogue.
Rather than criticize, why not highlight all the great work being done right now by country radio programmers??
Country Radio Should Honor The Legends When They're Still Living
Seeing how much artists like Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and others meant to their fans and Country radio, why do we wait until someone dies to show our love and appreciation?
