Simply put, Scripps clearly didn't want to pay those licensing fees to Cox Media for what is an otherwise generic brand name ... outside of Philadelphia and the general Delaware Valley, of course.
Action News means a lot more to the Delaware Valley.Plus... if we're talking ABC here, KFSN Fresno says hold my beer.
When you're dead last in a 4-station market (not counting three PBS stations and one religious station, but including then-indie WTTV), both in ratings and signal, sometimes it pays to go over the top. Their intro music was obnoxious, as was Paul Udell as their main news anchor. An ownership and call letter change, and switching from ABC to NBC helped in time, but it took a decade. At least in the early '70s as WLWI, they had David Letterman as weekend weatherguesser.Once upon a time, WTHR Indianapolis used "Eyewitness NewsCenter 13," to which I thought, well, which is it?
Good. “Action News” always sounded like a holdover from the 1970s. 🙄It appears the "Action News" branding on WFTS is about to come to an end - I'm hearing the branding will become "Tampa Bay 28 News" starting Monday.
Good move to differentiate themselves in a sea of undifferentiated logos, broadcast and otherwise, in today’s environment.EW Scripps has released a new logo for WFTS-TV and yes they reintroduced the 28 logo and included the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in the Station ID.
