Money Radio KFNN had an impressive 37 year run until, well...they ran out of money.
Pretty ironic for a radio station that helped listeners properly manage and invest their money, and dole out financial advice to, well....go bankrupt.

With KQFN gone, I wonder which station will pick up Westwood One's Thursday, Sunday, and Monday night pro football games. Both KGME and KDUS have carried Westwood One's games in the past, and, way back in the 1980s before the St. Louis Cardinals ever moved to Phoenix, KTAR carried these same games from CBS.
KFNN and KQFN are still on the air...for now.
You got to wonder if taking that risk of buying 1580 to create the fifth sports-formatted radio station in Phoenix led to their downfall.

I think it was due to what I call the Palm Springs fiasco...
They built out a brand new AM facility, it aired the Money Radio format. They ended putting it for up for sale. That deal has been in limbo for almost 2 years. Money was lost there.
Then KXPS which aired the Fanatic sports format was also shutdown, and an HD channel was leased to be the primary for the 102.7 translator. The sale of KXPS to the same buyer is also still in limbo Apparently, the holdup is a problem with the real estate transaction part of the deal. Money lost there.

My best guess is the expansion to Palm Springs was a costly failure, that may have been unrecoverable for CRC Both KXPS and KPSP continue to have maintenance and licensing costs and fees, and possibly still paying on the land where the towers sit.
The Phoenix stations had its issues too.
- KQFN's multiple moves to different towers at different power levels.
- Interference to their 105.3 and
99.599.395.9 translators. - Disputes between the owner and former business associates which led to KQFN's schedule never being stable.
All signs point to Yes Indeedy. However the last known blast of hot air came from JD Hayworth on 15~Ten, Sports Parking Lot 15~Eighty's sister station. Even though he was only on one station, there was enough spill over heat for the other. But don't you fret, there's enough urban heat coming from the remaining Sports Parking Lots...AM & FM.
Yup. And how ironic is it that Ron Cohen's bro has done pretty well with his Press-kit cluster.
Hmmm ...I don't see JD on the 15~Ten schedule. Did he finally get tired of listening to himself blow hot air? Certainly no listeners were tuning in for it. No idea how long he's been gone.
Maybe if I had listened to Money Radio myself, I wouldn't have the made the mistake of donating all my money to the Media Hut fund for that new campus in Gisela. BTW, where's the receipt for my tax write off? Hmmmm ...

J.D. may be gone, but 1510 and 1580 aren't acting like they're winding down operations. 1580 still shows that they're airing the Sunday/Monday/Thursday Night NFL package, NASCAR, and their afternoon show has a fantasy football contest for the few dedicated listeners they have. The question is, how long will the receiver want to fund everything?
If I'm appointed receiver, I want those stations trying to make some revenue so there's something more than just stick value when trying to unload them on behalf of the credit union. I'm pretty sure the NFL & NASCAR packages are mostly barter, and the contest is likely done on trade. The receiver isn't going to go out and spend a lot of money, but they will keep the business operating so there's something worth selling.
Can't be this one as the Seller won't be totin' the note: Radio For Sale And $850k is pie in the sky for two high end Ancient Modulation stations with marginal translators. But who knows?...maybe a Media Hut grad will use their marginal education to become a media mogul!
It's highly unlikely that any new owner (if they do find one) will keep the current formats intact.
That listing sounds like one of the "Radio Ranch" stations out of AJ. If that's the case, $850,000 for a rimshot AM and an East Valley FM translator is still ridiculously overpriced.
That doesn't matter to the receiver, who is just trying to get the best price for the lender. Keep it legal, keep it on the air, keep whatever revenue they can get coming in.
