I wonder who will take over the Westwood One football games for the rest of the season. I'm guessing it will be KGME but who knows.
As far as blame, I think a terrible decision was made when KQFN dropped its 50kw night signal a few years back. While the 99.3 translator came in well at my central Phoenix residence (and I'm sure the 95.9 translator was passable in Fountain Hills), I have to say that when I went to my cousin's house in Beardsley for Thanksgiving, trying to pull up the 99.3 signal there was a bear.

This tells me there's no decided buyer yet but that the liquidating agent is going to either program something automated or take the stations fully silent while a buyer is found.
Ron said the station will have a new buyer, didn't say who, but they will not continue the Money Radio format after the sale. The website will continue with podcasts. Probably shutting down after tomorrow, The last Business for Breakfast airs tomorrow morning.

And, from the Daily Blender video, it sounds like yesterday was their last show on KQFN. They could shut down the transmitter today if they wanted to.

It was true until the early 2000s.
The highly directional 50kW night signal was never there during the KQFN years. IIRC, Disney sold the license and the land to separate firms when they shut down the station nearly 10 years ago.
Right. Gabrielle Broadcasting purchased the license, and returned it on the air diplexed on the 1280 tower with 95 watts at night. Since June 2023, KQFN has been 24KW day / 245 watts night from the KOY tower.
That's correct. The six-tower array had one of its towers fall (I recall reading about rusting anchors) and the other five found to be at risk of collapse.

KQFN would blast in to SE Wyoming 650 miles away right before sunset when it was dark in laramie but not yet dark and power down time for 1580 but close. Heres how theyd sound some nights
I noticed that they had the wrong COL identification for K240EU for many years (it's actually licensed to Tempe, not Fountain Hills, where the translator is located).
Well, it looks like I was right for once. As of last night's game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams, the broadcasting of Westwood One pro football games has returned to KGME, the station that most recently aired those games before KQFN took over a few years back. (I confirmed this with my HD radio.) I'm glad that the IHeart-owned KGME has retaken the Westwood One feed so quickly--I feared that if the games had gone to either KDUS or KMVP (especially the latter), there would have been a lot of preemptions.
I was hoping it was KDUS, because live NFL football is much more compelling then the VSiN programs they air after hours.
I wonder if GCU basketball also ends up on KGME.
