When I lived in Austin in the 1960s and early 1970s KOB was a regular at night with a fair signal, distance ~615 miles. Far enough to the southeast to not be in the deep part of the null towards NYC. WABC was a much tougher catch, usually wee hours of the morning with a lot of fade, distance ~1510 miles.

KAAM Files to Go Silent

I've never recorded any Spanish language station on 770. Usually, KAAM or KKOB filled the slot.
Over in Houston KAAM was usually the strongest station on 770, with XEACH Monterey competing with them. KKOB is difficult here, but was easier when they were temporarily non-directional. I've also heard Radio Artemisa in Cuba once or twice, but it's been a few years. I've not heard WABC here, but maybe this winter if KAAM's still off...
Sadly, a loud buzzing RFI has overtaken the entire band in my neighborhood since last year, so any MW DX has been squashed. Occasionally, I'll check some frequencies while in the car away from home. When nulling KAAM in the past I've heard, KOB (weakly), KATL Montana, XEACH Monterrey, XEFRTM Fresnillo, and WVNN Alabama cheating on late. Would love to snag WABC.

Seriously, that’s a pain. The RFI around my house is getting worse, so I have to go to a local park for serious DXing these days. A little nervous going over there in the dark though.
XEACH is likely the culprit
Monterey is a scant 372 miles from my home.
I thought I heard a TOH ID, but couldn't tell, was all Spanish, no "Monterey"
I've never caught WABC, but would love to.
Tonight, only XEACH came in, weakly. No trace of KKOB, even with nulling.

The sale of KAAM to First Dallas Media was approved by the FCC today.
Has First Baptist found a new site for the transmitter?
As discussed earlier, I suspect they will try to diplex KAAM with an existing station. Once the sale actually closes we can keep an eye out for a FCC filing for a new facility.
Separately owned KAMM 1540 also seems to be looking at a diplex for a permanent site. Maybe a triplex including KAAM?
That brings up an engineering question: Is it practical for two stations to diplex when one of them is on a frequency that is a second harmonic of the other? Note that 2x770=1540. Would that cause problems with antenna tuning/filtering/rejection design? Or is that surmountable as with any other frequency combination, assuming adequate frequency separation?
When will they debut the new format and what format will they use?

Can't speak for DFW, but 90 miles east nets you Monterey, Mexico with weak reception. No sign of next door neighbor WBBM here in East Texas.Has anyone who has taken advantage of the DX'ing possibilities with KAAM off the air been able to pick up WBBM (780 Chicago)? Before the 770 station was created here, that was one of my "go to" after dark frequencies with the transistor radio in bed (yes, I feel old).

Tune into 90.9 on your radio dial, Charles. That's what is most likely going to 770. I suspect, although I have no actual knowledge of the future plans, that 90.9 Dallas and 92.9 Waco will go all CCM, while 770 will take the spoken word preaching and teaching format.
Already discussed upthread, but the preaching and teaching format on KCBI 90.9 HD-2 is what will likely wind up on 770.
Look for a call change application for KCBI on 770 once the sale closes, with a -FM suffix added to 90.9.
Now if someone would get the SMU Men’s and Women’s Basketball rights for OTA. I miss board opping those games. It was fun.
As predicted, and has already been quickly granted. Filed as a call exchange.
So will the preaching and teaching will go on the AM and the music stays on the FM.
