KAAM Files to Go Silent

Like KILT, KBME, and KXYZ there in the Bayou City, KAAM will most likely be diplexed to one of the towers on another AM. For example, 1190 KFXR. They have 16 different sticks to choose from.
I don’t disagree about the diplex, in fact I think it is the most likely outcome. I was just laying out all scenarios for the other poster.
There will be no new construction. Case in point, 1540. Never gonna happen.
Given what was stated in the most recent STA filing for KAMM it would appear NTRG is now leaning towards a diplex for 1540.
Oh c'mon, 🐸. Given who's going to line up for this thing, if it does go on the market, I think we all know full-well that it will be changing languages and offering prayers and redemption for a nominal donation.
Perhaps they should just cool their heels for a little while and see what the new FCC ownership rules will be. Likely a rush of potential deals when caps are loosened.
Not the worst thing to have happen, honestly, but I'd suspect if we ever got to that point someone like MARC would step in and try to make something happen to acquire 24/7 KAAM and ditch their KGGR daytimer.
History would be repeating itself, as the 770 facility was the result of a move of what was then KPBC from its original 1040 frequency.

So MARC would buy 770 and move the Black Gospel format to 770 and turn in the 1040 license. Please make that happen!!!!

And now KAAM has been filed to be sold to First Dallas Media (KCBI).
Looks like from the FCC filing that KAAM is being donated to First Dallas

I suspect the eventual format on 770 will be the teaching programming currently on KCBI 90.9 HD-2.

Would also expect the 770 call to be flipped to KCBI, with the -FM suffix on 90.9.

They still need to find a transmitter site, but the church has a lot of money and influence in Dallas, so maybe the path will be easier now.

Is there a chance KCBI would move the preaching/teaching programs off of 90.9 to and flip to all music?

Anyone’s guess. I do think that the acquisition of 770 means it is much more likely First Dallas Media hangs on to the 90.9 signal. The FM has very likely been the target of EMF and Hope Media Group, as both would want to expand further in DFW (Vida Unida for HMG, Radio Nueva Vida for EMF).

Trivia time: A lot of us know that KCBI started on 89.3 in 1976, and moved to 90.9 as part of a license and facility swap with KNON in 1988. It is also very likely the KCBI call will be used on 770. But there was another station in DFW with the KCBI call years ago in addition to the FM. Anyone remember what that was?🤔😉

the shortwavearchive has several old KCBI SW airchecks

Good one - I'd forgotten all about KCBI's shortwave facility!
The KCBI shortwave transmitter was located on the south side of U.S. 380 just west of the Denton/Collin County line. Very easy to see the antennas when driving by.

The last time I saw the facility (in its KAIJ incarnation) was around 20 years ago, and even then it was being swallowed up by urban sprawl. Was torn down a few years later.

KCBI had a very limited shortwave schedule. I only heard it a few times.

Interesting article about the shortwave efforts of KCBI, KAIJ, and other potential SW broadcasters in Texas, plus the relationship with the current WTWW in Tennessee:

The website is still active.

Well, back when I was reading KCBI, they wanted more teaching they focused on, similar to KDKR, it got much declined with young audience wanting Christian music. So since then it has mixed music and teaching. Some point listener wanted all teaching Channel on HD2 back in April 26, 2023 with the funds it made. I did try to contact station manager, unfortunately it’s difficult to be heard back on email and phone calls. I was trying to suggest KCBI can be all Music on HD3, and maybe Christian Worship or Christian HipHop on HD4 if it can’t be heard on HD4. It’s just allowing diverse programming and attracting listeners like us.

Dang that is insane. Radio Nueva Vida made its way on KYDA HD3 in June 25, likely FM is so much value nowadays.

If the long rumored Audacy-Cumulus merger happens there might be several FMs in play, depending on what the new ownership caps turn out to be. HMG and EMF would likely go after any castoffs. Same thing if MediaCo were to get out of the radio business in order to concentrate on TV and new media.

It has been nice to hear KOB Albuquerque at night. I live about 5 miles from the KAAM transmitter and never can null it out at night to hear KOB. Now I usually listen to the ABC News at the top of the hour on KOB on my way to work.

Maybe KLIF can get the SMU Men’s/ Women’s Basketball rights like KAAM had.

Picky point: It’s KKOB, and has been since 1986.

In the 1970s I recall WABC making it into DFW on 770.
