ABC Pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live

Disney stock has dropped a few dollars since the decision. It's bad PR for sure. Not the kind of thing you remove Iger over.

The real challenge is how he fixes things.
Half the population is going to hate whatever happens. And the chances are high Kimmel gets a buyout after a prolonged limbo because now Disney has been boxed in. They throw him out now, and the PR damage — and the damage to the Disney and ABC brands — gets irreparable on the left. They wait for him to make a move because they don't want to be seen as throwing him out and this continues to fester for potentially weeks on end.

We're rapidly approaching a point where this simply cannot be fixed.

Signs this is spiraling completely out of control: the Associated Press now has a live feed of the ongoing protests outside ABC's west coast HQ.

Again, the longer this just festers, the more this risks becoming irreparable for Disney.

That is not the same thing as "it is canceled." It may end up being canceled. I'd even agree that it's the likeliest outcome. It has not happened yet.

I dunno. Apparently there are more than 75 that were outright cancelled and then returned:

But you still have no actual proof that Jimmy Kimmel Live, specifically was losing ABC money. None of us do. You may think that. But---as you yourself have said in correcting posters on this board many times over the years---don't turn an opinion you can't back up into a blanket statement of fact.

Really? It looks like a story with several sources all on background.

The only way Kimmel could be obviously and clearly saying that would be for him to say it. He did not. That's your interpretation. And you're the guy who said that Colbert's Emmy speech about how much he loves his country was "loaded with snark", so there we are.

This what you're referring to?

Some MAGA types have screamed at me that "it was the market!" Uh, sure, every network that's cancelling a show abruptly cancels it when people are lining up for the taping of that night's show. Happens all the time. That's why we have the Lost Episode of Hello, Larry. (sarcasm font activated)

P.S. I don’t mean to be disrespectful to David or anyone else, since I greatly admire all the expertise and knowledge of everyone here. But I am worried that maybe all nighttime comedy/ talk shows that are remaining ( Jon Stewart, Seth Myers, Jimmy Fallon etc. ) would be targeted, while conservative shows (The 5) are given free rein. It looks like a double standard.JMO.
The Five couldn't be shut down by the FCC, even if they were talking about arresting people who voted for the dem....oh wait

Stephen Miller getting a cell ready for ANTIFA! Anybody getting served a crap-ton of Disney ads on Facebook and elsewhere online suddenly

If Jimmy Kimmel were doing a hard news broadcast, ( like ABC NIghtly News w/ David Muir), where journalists are announcing verifiable facts, then the network might have grounds to question whether Kimmel’s statement is factual.

But Kimmel is not broadcasting “hard news”. He’s doing stand up comedy commentary. The alleged shooter is a white American citizen, Christian, from a Republican family, in a red state, registered to vote as “unaffiliated “ (not Democrat) who attended the conservative university. So Kimmel’s joke is that there is not very much evidence that he’s a so-called “leftist”.
So how can a stand up comic be suspended for “lying”? How does the idea of “lying” relate to a comedy routine of opinions, aired as late night entertainment? —D.
Because the government is determined to prosecute a trans leftist. Period. No matter what the facts are.

I'd wonder what would have happened if any of the shows had a stronger stance than they did. For instance...Christopher Titus (short lived sitcom on Fox called Titus) and has a podcast. Last week's "Armageddon Update" was titled "Assassination of an Ass."

Plenty of “proper purveyors” have done incredibly impactful work that is not live. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Powerful, meaningful joirnalism comes in many forms.
You're right, my apologies. I should have worded that much more carefully ... like:

"Which explains why proper purveyors of facts have always worked live when dealing with fast-developing, tetchy events ... so they wouldn't end up like Harris K. Telemacher, or perhaps, Jimmy Kimmel."

To do otherwise is Russian roulette.

(Maybe the reference to Harris K. Telemacher was too obscure. He was a weatherman character in the film L..A. Story who prerecorded his local 6 o'clock news forecast for fair, sunny weather. The next scene was L.A. under a gigantic freak flash flood rainstorm. The scene following that was the dripping wet station owner firing him for getting his boat capsized.)

Lisa Simpson would have a fit. That woman appears to be the real life Malibu Stacy.

This what you're referring to?

He might have meant this one:

Relevant portion:

“Absolutely f–king livid,” one producer told the outlet about how Kimmel took the news, adding that the “pissed” late-night host is meeting with the network. [...] Sources told the outlet that the network’s decision is the “last straw” for Kimmel, who is now “actively looking” to break out of his contract and end his relationship with ABC. “Jimmy is pissed over the decision to suspend him and the show and he isn’t going to take this lightly, as he is actively looking for ways to get out of his contract,” the source said, with another insisting they’ve “never seen Kimmel this angry.”

The article isn't clear if the producer who said he's livid is among the sources who said he doesn't even want to go back, but...

But Kimmel isn’t a news show. He stated what had absolutely happened in the preceding days.

There were newspapers that used something like "Roxton Wide Awake" for their name. I always wondered the context back say 1880s through 1920s.
Google is your friend. Lead Belly was warning his fellow African-Americans to be aware of what the white man (especially he who wears a badge) could do to them if they give him even the flimsiest reason to be suspicious.
