Well some of the acts are closer to playing the state fair circuit rather than stadiums...will the TPUSA half time show be free?

Ya think that maybe there's a bit of a political slant to these choices for this event over the last decade or three?
And his musical universe does not include country or rock. His musical vision is purely rhythmic. No easily comprehended, danceable beat? That's not music. Instrumental virtuosity? Unnecessary, a synthesized loop on a computer can do it better and cheaper.Remember that the choices are made by Jay Z.

I'm sure he'll put on a great show, visually impressive and exciting, and regardless of language, there's a gut-level appeal to his music that transcends that language barrier. I'm not going to watch the Turning Point white -- I mean alternative --- halftime show even if George Strait were to be part of it. I've seen his full shows many times. I don't need to see him rehash three old hits again, especially at his age.No one is forcing anyone to listen to it.

Even lower than that. Last I heard, Lee Greenwood was working the Branson, Missouri theater scene, which is the "he's still alive?" circuit.Well some of the acts are closer to playing the state fair circuit rather than stadiums...
My comment stands intact doesn't it?Remember that the choices are made by Jay Z.
I was referring to the number of songs he'd be performing as the Turning Point headliner, assuming that the headliner there would get about as much stage time as Bad Bunny will get in the Super Bowl show. Of course, if the Turning Point people want to put on a four-hour show to keep people's eyes off the entire Super Bowl, than yeah, the headliner would get to do at least an hour of hits.Well, George has had more than three old hits, but...
Fair enough. That said, I'm wondering if TPUSA even knows how much is involved in putting on a 4 hour show with multiple artists on the bill. I'd guess (based on the quality of the Daily Wire's movie output) that they still haven't got the whole "entertainment" thing sussed out.I was referring to the number of songs he'd be performing as the Turning Point headliner, assuming that the headliner there would get about as much stage time as Bad Bunny will get in the Super Bowl show. Can they find anyone that appeals to a young crowd that TPUSA claims, although apparently "young" in the GOP extends to 40?I'm sure he'll put on a great show, visually impressive and exciting, and regardless of language, there's a gut-level appeal to his music that transcends that language barrier. you'd think he's alive on well if you only watch FNCEven lower than that. Last I heard, Lee Greenwood was working the Branson, Missouri theater scene, which is the "he's still alive?" circuit.
Sean Hannity also produced a produced a low budget straight to streaming "Christmas" movie, only available to digitally b uy not rentFair enough. Oh I think there's definitely some folks in that area (I've heard it called the "manosphere") who can bring in eyeballs to a podcast or an event like a TPUSA conference, but a musical artist with the same level of world-wide appeal of Bad Bunny? Not so much. Can they find anyone that appeals to a young crowd that TPUSA claims, although apparently "young" in the GOP extends to 40?
Gloria Estefan, Brian Boitano, Dorothy Hamill, and the Minnesota Marching Band as the performers. The TPUSA concert will be a flop in my opinion only 10 people will watch it. The only time that counter programing did better than The Super Bowl Halftime Show was In Living Color in Jan 92 on FOX.
Did Estefan sing anything in Spanish on that show, or did she stick to her English-language hits? Was there the same resistance from the far right to her performing at the Super Bowl that Bad Bunny is encountering today, or was hers a different case because she was an anti-Castro Cuban-American?Gloria Estefan, Brian Boitano, Dorothy Hamill, and the Minnesota Marching Band as the performers.
Yeah, I was probably one of those that tuned into In Living Color that day.![]()
None of the above.Did Estefan sing anything in Spanish on that show, or did she stick to her English-language hits? I was referring to 1992, when she was on the halftime show, not the '80s, when the Sound Machine had most of their hits. Clinton would win the White House that November, and what would become the Tea Party movement was beginning to stir. Two years later, there definitely was a far right, and it flexed its muscles in that year's midterms.None of the above.
The group's name, before she self-identified, was "Miami Sound Machine" so it was not instantly identified as American.
There was no social media in that early 80's period. It was not possible to find out that Gloria and her husband were even Cuban-Americans with ease. And nobody, even those like myself who knew her (and Emilio) well had any idea of whether they were "Anti-Castro".
The name "Gloria" does not sound Cuban. The name "Estefan" does not sound a lot like a Latin American name as most unknowing people are not familiar at all with the name.
And the Spanish language songs were not, at the beginning, picked up on English language top 40 stations. When Miami Sound Machine did remotes for me at WHTT, they were often seen in our same offices as sister Y-100. Yet Y-100 picked up on the group when they decided to do songs in English.
And there was no thing called "far right" 45 years... nearly a half-century... ago to qualify or disqualify artists based on their politics. In fact, conservatives were very anti-Castro and Kennedy gained considerable support due to his blockade against the Russians.
The big hits began in 1983-94 with "Eyes of Innocence" which went national. The prior albums in the earlier 80s, Rio and Otra Vez, were all Spanish. It took Dr. Beat in 1984 to make the group a legitimate crossover....I was referring to 1992, when she was on the halftime show, not the '80s, when the Sound Machine had most of their hits.
While incomplete, and missing some songs that were very big outside the U.S., we can easily see that most of the biggest hits were in the 80's, and the group was sort of "in decline" by the 90's. Of course, in 1995 Emilia along with Gloria took over the administration of Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, better known as just "Shakira" and made her into a blonde and an international superstar.Clinton would win the White House that November, and what would become the Tea Party movement was beginning to stir. Two years later, there definitely was a far right, and it flexed its muscles in that year's midterms.
At that time, in the 60's, the whole nation was afraid of Russia and did not want them to have a base in Cuba. When Kennedy was in office we still had CONELRAD where stations would all switch to either 640 and 1240 so the Russians could not track their missiles on any specific city or station. Fear and hatred of Russia and communism was bipartisan. But yes, JFK was very much anti-Castro, and anti-Communist. It was his youth and his positions on domestic social issues that won him liberal support.
