Well, they’re definitely not returning to 102.5.I don't believe that Audacy ever stopped promoting Star 102.5 as a streaming service. They did give up the call letters and the frequency. It's also on an HD2 frequency for the much maligned 107.7 frequency in WNY. TSQ's 96.1 did grab the call letters and position itself as Star 96.1 for a period, but I suspect that lawyers got involved and 96.1 ended up rebranding a "The New 96.1." I can't read the Domain Insight article, but I don't see them returning to the 102.5 frequency.
Not happening. Paging @Buddy Shula…Maybe they can put it on 98.5.
If it's that scenario....it might have to wait until after the holidays; if memory serves, 96.1 is about to start up Christmas music. Here is the wording in one trade ..
Is Audacy bringing its AC “Star” brand back to Buffalo?
It says nothing about Christmas. It says the “Star Brand”, which simply could be the moniker
This is just a guess but since 96.1 really has no identity, they may have worked something with Audacy to use the “brand” STAR.
I would think, but not necessarily. No reason to hold the moniker when you could begin to build more equity with it.If it's that scenario....it might have to wait until after the holidays; if memory serves, 96.1 is about to start up Christmas music.
This will do nothing. Desperate attempt to rekindle and try to compete with 96.1. Perhaps they should have never sold 102.5.The mystery is solved, kinda. WLKK HD2 has been rebranded as Star 107.7 in their logo in the Audacy app. It's currently playing all Christmas music, but all the liners, etc. still say Star 102.5.
Unfortunately, WLKK is not broadcasting an HD2 signal at this time. So if you don't listen on the app, you are out of luck.
Or moved the Star format to 107.7 when they sold 102.5This will do nothing. Desperate attempt to rekindle and try to compete with 96.1. Perhaps they should have never sold 102.5.
