David Gow Buys the Translator

KJOZ is the source of the Christmas music
That it is. Thought crossed my mind: After Christmas could we see the return of La Calle on 880 and 92.5?

Have to wonder if Gow ran out of money for the K223CW 92.5 lease?

I guess the concurrent sale of K223DH is in deeper limbo. Supposed to have gone from Hector/Centro to SDK Franco then flipped to Gow. Obviously not happening now; both translator deals were included in the APA for K223CW.

La Calle or Romance, but then again Centro has another station on their App named LA MX RADIO.

Disregard, page froze said post not sent.

There is no branding at all, just goes from song to song. They do have a legal ID "You're listening to KJOZ 880 AM Conroe and 92.5 FM Houston K223CW"

Will be interesting to check 97.5 Wednesday morning to see if the 92.5 references are gone. You would think Gow would find out very quickly about the translator loss, especially since 92.5 frequently aired different commercials than 97.5.

Listened to the beginning of the KFNC morning show today. They acknowledged a text from a listener asking about the Christmas music on 92.5. They replied that “92.5 is done” and said “download the app” and also pushed the “crystal clear” 97.9 HD-2 option.

There was still some recorded imaging including 92.5, and the website has not been updated. But it looks like the 92.5 simulcast is gone for good.

In the withdrawal amendment of the sale of K223CW, the justification given was "The parties have decided not to pursue this transaction.".

Perhaps that is true, but it seems more like one of the parties decided and there must be more to the story. KFNC seems to have been caught flat-footed. 92.5 still mentioned on their website on the socials and on-air. I heard one of the morning host mention 92.5 along with 97.5 this morning.

KFNC has now done some quick and dirty editing on their rejoins/bumpers to remove the references to 92.5. No changes to the website yet.

Del Olaleye today told listeners to “forget about 92.5” and “remove it from your presets”, and promoted the app and the HD-2 alternative.

Guess we can forget all the talk of the sports format continuing on 92.5 if 97.5 was flipped to something else.

Was the 97.9 hd2 feeding the translator or simulcasting 97.5?

If it is the former, do you think they will keep leasing that hd channel going forward? It's got to be a sizable monthly sum.

The 92.5 translator was “fed” by 97.9 HD-2. Usually had different commercials in the breaks.

I would normally say they’d look at the ratings for the HD-2 and make a decision. But, hey, they don’t subscribe to the ratings any more so who knows. If Gow Media is in money trouble I don’t see how the HD-2 continues, and the possibility of finding another translator is probably moot.

I wonder if anybody at the FCC is curious why overlapping 92.5, 94.1, 104.5, & 106.1 are all KJOZ

I'm not in Houston currently and can't listen for myself. Are all of these running different programming?

There is actually a rule in the CFR about not having multiple translators serving "substantially the same area" without a technical showing of need. I would imagine a need situation would be like in a mountainous area where topography blocks usable signals.

This christmas music on 92.5 is the first time in a bit that KJOZ is actually on a translator. The other 2 translators 99.5 I haven't heard on the air, just the other 99.5 translator and 102.5 is Romance heard on cochannels KJFI-LP & KJHJ-LP and a 91.5 translator.
