President's Televised Address

The president announced on Tuesday that he will do a live primetime televised address to the nation on Wednesday at 9PM.

All four networks have scheduled 15 minutes of time for the speech. This president doesn't usually hold himself to 15 minutes, so we'll see how this goes,

According to the linked story, the president will speak on his accomplishments during his first year. I thought that's what the State of the Union was for. But nobody asked me.

Do the networks even have to air his nonsense? Why cant people just watch it on fox news channel if they want to watch it. Instead of interrupting all the programming people actually want to watch.

Airing any presidential speech is optional and sometimes they’re skipped. Usually the networks and wire services are tipped off as to the subject or given advance copies an hour or so ahead. This could be anything from attacking Venezuela to announcing a cease-fire in Ukraine. Anything but the Epstein files, that is.

His approval rating is at an all time low for him, and still dropping, even his MAGA supporters are dwindling in number from 79% down to 70%. It will get worse when those ACA subsidies expire. This is his attempt to salvage that and turn it around. Yeah, 15 minutes of lies that everything is great and getting better.

Given the firestorms that his recent, unscheduled, non-nationally televised statements have sparked, I'd imagine there'll be plenty of viewer interest in tonight's speech by supporters and detractors alike. The ratings will reflect it, and will almost certainly be a prime talking point in his public utterances for months afterward.

He's an old hand at public firings. Anyone who's watched TV this century has seen Donald Trump fire people. There's got to be more to this.

Notice how she went after just about all the biggest names in the administration except for Stephen Miller? Could this public doubting of both Trump and Vance be a smokescreen designed to enable the eventual ascension of Miller?

When Obama gave a prime-time speech on immigration in 2014, PBS was the only broadcast network to carry it live:

I think I need to schedule some root canal sans anesthesia…it would be less painful. I’d say shame on the networks for indulging this pathological narcissist, but they’ve proven “shame” is not in their vocabulary. And after whatever Adderall-fueled rants blaming “Biden” conclude, not a single one of the pundits and analysts will have the professional integrity to point out the 🦇 💩 lunacy. They’ll sanewash and ignore, pretending all is normal just as they do every day.

That's what fear, backed up by successful extortion of media entities, will do. No one wants to be the next George Stephanopoulos, who cost his network millions in a direct payment to Trump.

Maybe this speech is to announce the public firing of his chief of staf.

I think the timing of this speech is to counter that article and do what his press secretary said: List all of his accomplishments from the year.

He hates mainstream media, but he lives in that world, and wants to control the message. That's what this is about.

Then afterwards he'll complain that he was taken out of context and unfairly criticized. We've seen it all before.

My only question is will there be a live audience applauding him at pre-determined times.

The thing everyone needs to know is that this address won't be carried on hundreds of other channels. They're the ones people will be watching.

The mainstream media in much of “free” South America is projecting that today Trump will announce a change in regime in Venezuela and a warning to Petro in Colombia. This comes right after an overwhelming conservative victory in the presidential runoff in Chile.

Sadly, I don't think you're far from the truth. Now about that Pinochet wannabe in Chile...

Of course. The US has had a great and successful track record of such things around the world.
In the case of Venezuela, the mounting commentaries are about facilitating the installation of the truly elected president, currently hiding in exile.

I was thinking this one also the BBC Lawsuit given the history of this Administration and allies.
