What's up at 102.7 Jack-FM?

94.1 is NOT flipping. That's the page for the old CHR format that they never killed off. Simply repurposed it to promote.

We is dead... 94.1 HD2 feeds We 103.3. HD3 feeds 94.5's ESPN programming.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, I've heard 1250 will be shut off.
that could be telling as why would they promote it on their old CHR page if 102.7 is not going to be actually that

Yep. It was a pretty anticlimactic launch. While mostly keeping the existing format made sense, I can't figure out why Connoisseur would spend five days encouraging Jack's audience to go somewhere else.

To be fair, it sounds alright musically to this 51 year old male. It's a lot better than the Bob FM in Kansas City. I didn't, however, hear anything that would make me want to choose it over KONO, which is much better programmed and which is mostly where Connoisseur sent its audience for the last five days. I stream KONO at work fairly regularly. I won't likely say the same about Bob. It's not bad; it just doesn't give me much incentive to tune in when I have plenty of other options.

Like I stated before this could have easily been a rebrand at midnight deal..maybe stunting for an hour prior with songs with Bob ..not some dragged out let’s burn our audience crap..they also could have generated new interest by giving 102.7 its original calls back even if it still maintained the variety format ..it’s just more corporate garbage that continues to keep me away from terrestrial radio

While the format isn't much different, the stunt accomplished its goal of setting a tune-in appointment and potentially getting people today sampling the new brand as the listening habits shift with Q101.9 returning to its normal playlist from Christmas music. Instead of going back to KONO-FM or elsewhere, perhaps some now stick with Bob.

Nothing is ever gained from stunting for an hour or two. Nobody catches on to spread the word and it does nothing. The sweet spot of stunting is 3-5 days.

Would I have gone from Jack to Bob? No. But with Jack-FM, they were locked into the national playlist. Bob-FM's are at least custom researched and scheduled for their market. Connoisseur didn't want to rock the boat and this was the best solution they had. The brand has some recognition due to 103.5 Austin (and if rumors are true perhaps even more integration between the two are possible)

Any speculation of Connoisseur buying Waterloo Media?

Since Bob Sinclair died last year, the rumor mill has been saying his properties in Austin and Norfolk would likely be sold. This is the first I've heard of a potential buyer, but it seems plausible. Connoisseur is one of the few operators spending money on and significantly investing in radio.

KBPA is consistently ranked number 1 in the Austin ratings. In fact I'm listening to it right now since it's playing the 9 at 9 from one of my favorite years.

I wonder if 102.7 plans to do a 9 at 9.

The now defunct Power 93 KITY used to do 9 at 9 although not from a random year like Austin's Bob FM does.

Connoisseur should really consider flipping 94.1 to 60s and 70s as a flanker to Bob FM. That with local jocks.

If they can bring Tejano back to the airwaves on 95 .7 then they can definitely put such a format here.

A combination of that would garner KONO, KQXT, KAHL, and KXXM listeners and make more of a dent in the ratings.

Interesting note Krash Kelly was at Mix 96.1 here in San Antonio for a few years before he came on board with 103.5 Bob FM.

Again, as Lance and others have alluded to earlier, 94.1’s not flipping. Despite the poor ratings, Sports Star is a decent biller. (Not to mention those that grew up on 60s/70s hits are now aging out of the primary advertising demo.)

News flash: Anyone that grew up on 60s/70s hits aged out of the advertising demos many years ago.

Here’s something to consider: If you were 18 years old at the end of the 1980s, you have now aged out of radio’s target demos.

Let's see. I turned 18 on January 11, 1989.

Yep, I'll be joining the ranks of the forgotten in less than a week.

Thanks, 🐸. It's 9:40 am and all, but I reckon it's late enough to open up a cold one over that.

OK, folks, get ready for some "Spin." 102.7 KJXK is now free of that pesky national Jack-FM format. Connoisseur can program "San Antonio's Bob 102.7" for itself. Hooray!

But that's not what this is about. Someone in corporate didn't want to keep paying for the Jack-FM rights. Let's just program it ourselves and stop paying those fees. The format plays almost nothing current. We'll just set up a playlist of about 400 songs ourselves! Mostly what Jack was already playing.

But what management is leaving out is the quips. If you don't have DJs and you don't want a soulless jukebox, you need Howard Cogan or the Geico voice guy to make snide remarks composed for him by a team of comedy writers in Los Angeles. That's why KJXK remains in San Antonio's top 10 for all these years while still playing the same Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers and U2 songs it's been playing since 2006.

Here's the statement from Connoisseur Media San Antonio VP Morgan Harrison: “102.7 Bob-FM keeps the adult hits format people enjoy, while giving us more room to spotlight San Antonio — its neighborhoods, its culture, and its sense of fun. We’re making radio that feels local, alive, and connected — the way it should be.”

OK, I'll buy anyone here dinner in July if you can cite for me somewhere that KJXK will spotlight San Antonio's neighborhoods, culture or sense of fun. Will a fulltime "spotlighter" of neighborhoods or culture be hired? Who will supply the "sense of fun"? It's an automated radio station.

seriously... if it was programmed for the market there would be a lot of dance product in the mix ..freestyle....rap..a few locals thrown in ..Passing Strangers anyone?,,,..it's the same crap...literally went through their playlist it's the same tired Pat Benatar songs...the 4 overplayed Aerosmith songs and endless Bon Jovi with maybe Ace of Base or Real McCoy thrown in to cover the rhythm <eye roll> ...next....KONO owns the classic hits/variety market ...and by default they didn't go looking for it they just evolved into it and no station has the balls to take them on because they are tied to corporate radio executives with no clue and Cox has at least retained local talent and programming enough to reflect the market to a degree
