Post your latest DX

I did a bit of daytime DX today, checking battery portables for workings for whatever stray Blizzards of the Century we're due to have before spring.
Amid the QRM and swarms of whatever -- that one stoplight in Port Carbon must be a nuclear device -- there was a fadey station atop 930 playing a more recent manner of Classic Rock besides the usual anthems. '102 and 104.something, The Goat'.
As in 'Greatest of all time'. It was WHLM Bloomsburg PA, just to let yiz know. A year ago I'd reported here that they were the loudest thing on the dial for a few overnights -- by far. They were 'Pop Radio' then, featuring and hyping what was most likely for most DXers to consider, easily, the most unbelievably bad modern music ever recoded. That sound, plus them no doubt operating full-time daytime 2000 omni watts in the wee hours could have made IDing them a cinch for many. No way they were obeying their licensed 18 watts.
They are now 'The Goat', however.

A few mornings ago, I caught a tropo Classy 100 from Erie, PA in Jefferson Hills, PA , about 130 miles , with a weak signal. That station only has 150 m HAAT , impressive in my eyes.

Power outage last night at Ahtanum Ridge knocked all TV stations off and several FMs (89.5, 91.9, 94.5, and translators on 89.9 and 101.3). Two NEW FMs! Both in the 9:00 hour last night
- KJDY-94.5 Canyon City OR, current country music // stream. NEW #912, 45KW at 175 miles.
- K233CJ-94.5 College Place, WA; with La Ke Buena, Ranchera music, mostly dominant. NEW #913, 250W at 123 miles (off the Pikes Peak OR tower, like KKSR/KRKL/KXRX)

Also heard the following relogs (none heard in this area for years): KHTQ-94.5 Hayden ID (Auto Credit Sales ad), KEWU-89.5 Cheney (with new Kool format, formerly on 107.1), K208BY-89.5 Moses Lake (// KOLU-90.1), and KQAC-89.9 Portland. Did not hear well-wanted KTSY-89.5 or anything on 91.9 (Warm Springs OR and Brewster WA were needed targets).

Last night I heard Gospel music on 1010 kHz here in NJ. After nulling out WINS, I got an ID of "Hoopers Creek Broadcasting Network, The Gospel Voice of the Mountains". That turns out to be WKJW from Black Mountain, NC (Asheville area), with 47 kW daytime and 90 watts at night. I presume they were accidentally on their daytime power.

I also heard 580 WCHS from Charleston, WV, a 5 kW talk station. Maybe they were on their non-directional daytime pattern, or maybe I just got lucky, since I normally pick up WHP from Harrisburg, PA.

WKJW is a fairly frequent offender with staying on day power at night.

Last night (2/23) around 6:30pm in my car in Houston heard one on 1270 I can't identify. I heard classic country music and an ID that mentioned 97.9 (or possibly 107.9) mixing with 2 Spanish language stations, the usual KFLC and another playing pop music, probably KRXO. I can't find any matches for the country station on NRC Log, fmlist, etc. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I live too close to the 1010 WINS transmitter to null it out. It would be nice if WINS was temporarily off the air. If happened, I would probably get CFRB and WKJW (if they don't power down).

I usually get WTAG on 580, but I have received WHP, CFRA, and WKAQ on that frequency in the past. Three weeks ago, I received WCHS for the first time.

I have tried to hear this again for the last 2 nights around the same time. Tonight WIJD Pritchard AL was coming in better than usual with Christian preaching. At 6:30 they started playing country gospel music and I caught an ID for their 97.9 translator. I suspect that this is what I heard the other night and, with a much weaker signal, didn't realize it was gospel music instead of straight country.

I believe I caught it again this morning , this time with a static free signal. I am not entirely sure if it was Classy because I was in a rush and never heard an ID.

Starting to clean all my old boxes out of my parent's attic because my Mom is moving. Brought home 4 boxes today. Came across a Realistic DX-370. Haven't tried it yet but there is a hand written sticky note on it from my Dad that says "Works well with 4 AA batteries". No telling how long ago he wrote it or what his idea of works well is but I will throw some batteries in it and see what happens. Also found a copy of "Radio Shack Police Call" 2000 Edition. Volume 6 covers mostly the SE. Interesting old artifact from my scanner days.

Before Docket 80-90 and subsequent changes, WCCK 103.7 Erie, PA used to be received regularly all over for 200 miles. Due to rules at the time, 103.7 ended up with fewer stations. Now there are stations on 103.7 all over.

A former station of mine, WDDH 97.5 about 80 miles SE of Erie well outperforms its coverage map on any given day

Now you’ll be lucky to get it in Cleveland lol. But there are a lot of 103.7’s blocking it , W279BT Cleveland (K-Love) (maybe this is the reason present day Erie 103.7 (now Star 104) can’t be received there well , IDK) , WQWV Fisher (103.7 WQWV) , W279DN (103.7 The River) Kittanning , among others. 103.7 is packed through SW and NW PA and NE OH.

It was almost as if I were 13 again with a transistor radio at the pillow last night (MM 3-2 at 2:07 AM) in the dark. Only it was a 'new' 15-pound Realistic DX 440 radio this time, hi.
A 'CFMB' Montreal on 1280 finally IDed, YL voice, after a few instrumental songs -- with something about (iIrc) being the world's first or only 'all instrumental music station'.
No sign of the usual WADO from NYC. Not a peep (were they off?)
CFMB sounds like something tune-able for DXers in the region. 50K with it casually pulled in from the South at night. The music was unique -- having no ethnic or socially pinpointing identity, One tune reminded me of Mike Oldfield's 'Tubular Bells'.
Music at night now on the AM dial suggests 'not US stations', so CFMB would stand out, anyway. It's not 1966 Dolly Holiday, with a Nat King Cole song every other selection, but it was kinda cool.
Happy hunting!.

UnIDed 'Carolina' station this morning, Wed 4 March ..... assistance required, y'all :p.
Gave the 'new addition here' Realistic DX 440 a spin this sunup and heard a Star Spangled Banner go off at 6:00 -- female vocal, a capella, with applause at the end. Haven't heard one of those in years.
There was no traditional sign-on -- 'good morning', 'this is radio station', etc, nothing like that. A fellow came on, gave time checks like 6:06, and a patter I had trouble discerning the content of. He mentioned he was going to play songs by Percy Sledge and Gladys Knight. In the tumble of 1590 stations I caught an ad for 'Twin Ford', a mention of some other sponsor 'near I-85'. Those might have been from another station in a spot cluster.
I ducked out for a coffee and danish (no grits sold up here, just home fries, hi) and returned to find the same fellow all alone and atop the frequency after 7:00! Talking about the bible. He mentioned that he was 86 years old, born a year before some female singer he said he would play who was born in 1935..
Rx-Locator lists 5 stations on 1590 in NC and 2 in SC, and I called a few. Two didn't answer. But no soap. And the ones in SC are both listed as country.
Anyone from those parts who can help out this AM DX addict?
