The Trump Administration rants about ABC News And NBC, Says They Should Lose FCC Licenses

Now here is Jimmy Kimmel response to the latest FCC. It’s a response to his network being targeted over the “Equal Time Rule” and Chairman Carrs definition of “pro-America” content.

As noted, Carr is not following the law here as the law requires that the left-out candidate make a complaint to the FCC before the latter can begin an investigation. From the editorial department, it's more evidence to me that this administration is behaving more like the Sopranos or "The Godfather" than any democratic (with a small d) presidency...

From the editorial department, it's more evidence to me that this administration is behaving more like the Sopranos or "The Godfather" than any democratic (with a small d) presidency...

And right there is what ABC's attorneys should file as a response ... my suggested text: "We received no requests for equal time by other candidates, as is required under the rule, Mr. Chairman. If you are claiming that you received a complaint from a candidate, we suggest that you remind said candidate that there is a process here which must be followed before they are allowed to file a complaint with you."

Here is Chairman Carr at a speaking event and his response to the current state of the media.

Here we go again the FCC Chairman is directly trying to control the White House and Pentagon press corps with FCC license threats over the news coverage in Iran. Everytime the FCC chairman speaks we have to wait and see which Network O&O’s in New York or Los Angeles would face a license threat or if it’s PBS having their license questioned it’s their Washington DC, Boston or San Francisco affiliates that’s facing a license threat.

When Variety has to remind Chairman Carr that the FCC does not control New York Times or the Washington Post we know it’s a clue that Chairman Carr is controlling both the Pentagon and White House Press Corps and it’s crazier than we think. Also in the past year we mentioned that the FCC does not control the Associated Press and Reuters for the same reasons. Yes it’s a first amendment issue here.

Carr linked to a Truth Social post from Trump, in which the president condemned “intentionally misleading headlines” about U.S. tanker planes that were targeted in Saudi Arabia. Trump claimed the planes were not “’struck’ or ‘destroyed’” and that four of the five planes involved in the attack were “already back in service.” Trump went on to call out “lowlife ‘papers’” like the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, who “want us to lose the War.” Important to note that the FCC chairman has no authority over papers like the WSJ or NYT. However, Carr, who has been outspoken about quieting unfavorable TV coverage of the Trump administration, seems to be sending out the warning flare to broadcasters in a preemptive attempt to wrangle their reporting.

"Your honor, we respectfully submit that a source completely controlled by the President of the United States would be especially prone to framing its own propagandist point of view as fact, and when compared to sources such as the Associated Press and Reuters, can be proven to be false."

Plus whatever we see in the White House and Pentagon are doing to the press Corp is the template for stuff we have to watch out for in Governors offices during the 2026 elections for Governor, State Legislatures, House and Senate around the country.

If I may pick a nit, he's not trying to control the White House and Pentagon press corps. Those folks are mostly already fawning sycophants. No, Carr is threatening entire media outlets with losing their licenses if they don't fall in line with the administration's official narrative on the war. This is way beyond the "we'll let you embed reporters in the field" and showing footage of precision weapons trying to control the narrative like in the previous two Iraq Wars. This is straight up intimidation. "Nice broadcast license you've got there...be a shame if something happened to it..."

A reminder that the chairman is simply expressing his personal opinion in his post, and it is not official policy of the FCC. Federal agencies do not have unlimited authority in interpreting the law. That was the result of a recent supreme court decision.

Supreme Court strikes down Chevron, curtailing power of federal agencies

So he may believe he alone is the arbiter of the public interest, but he is not. Neither is the president.

One more thing: The chairman warns that stations should "correct course before their license renewals come up."

This report by CBS News says most license renewals will not come up until 2028 or 2030. After the next election.

So this is not an imminent threat.

CNN's Brian Stelter wrote an analysis piece about this latest round from Carr, and says his threats "ring hollow:"

In reality, the FCC has not denied a license renewal in decades. Any government action against a licensee would cause a protracted legal battle, even more so given the current media-bashing climate, because a station would likely cite Trump’s retributive streak and mount a First Amendment case.

“Chairman Carr’s threats are hollow,” public interest lawyer Andrew Jay Schwartzman told CNN. “He poses no genuine danger to any broadcasters’ licenses based on his unhappiness with their content.”

That’s not how this administration works no matter how hard your work to rationalize and sane wash them.

“Not unlimited” and “much freaking broader than was ever previously the case” are not the same thing.

They have the power to gum up license renewals with the full and unlimited resources of the government to beat peopme into submission. And they do.

And of course between now and then the FCC and its ideological wannabe dictator will not do anything to threaten and make life difficult for broadcasters.

So this is not an imminent threat.
Oh, so threats are a-ok as long as they’re not imminent, like the mafia is fine because the threat wouldn’t be realized until some later date.

He will threaten every chance he gets. But he can't actually DO anything. That's what matters, and why we all need to put Chairman Carr on ignore.
Oddly enough, Trump is bragging about what he has "DONE" to the media so far. Is it all accurate? Not entirely, but while Carr might be officially powerless, the regime is absolutely pressuring all sorts of media to fall in line. Where regulations fail, lawsuits have been shown to cause major outlets to knuckle under.

What a bunch of stupidity. This is was all or mostly just straight up because of misinformation and intimidation.

Everyone else: "The Late Show is ending because it's no longer financially viable"
And why was that?

Many would say it was because the show, from the very first seconds of every broadcast, dismissed half or more of Americans due to its overt and virulent political focus.

Admittedly, it's not Kansas anymore. It's 2026, not the 60's and 70's when Steve Allen and Johnny Carson did entertaining shows that did not offend the sociopolitical views of anyone. But the question remains of why all three of the biggest OTA networks have shows that are highly politicized.
Trump: "I got Colbert cancelled"
An overstatement, but the fact is that those three networks that do shows "after the local news" are all politicized and focused on the perspectives of just one and the same party. That is obviously not a successful business model.

Well there's always Greg Gutfeld! That show doesn't have an overt and virulent political focus! #sarcasm
And "Gutfeld!" is not on an OTA television network, either.
