Is Classic Rock 101.1 going away?

93.3 is dayparted. 80s/90s with a little 70s and an even smaller amount of early 00s (I’d say 00-04) from 5am-7pm. From 7pm-5am, it goes more active with one or two charting active tracks an hour.

That looks a lot better than I heart's premium choice mainstream classic rock playlist. But on the other hand, it will not make the former Rock 101 listeners happy. At the time time, it will make the P1 Planet listeners change the station.
I guess the only thing it's got going for it is that it's the only "rock" station in town now. So if you're a terrestrial radio listener that likes rock, you either put up with it or turn your radio off.
(It's a good thing there's a way to listen to other stuff in your car: a stream, SiriusXM, or if your car is older, CDs. (I actually put a bunch of my favorites on a USB stick and play them instead of listening to any radio.)

People have been saying 102.5 the Lake is classic rock.
It seems more rock oriented than the Charlotte Lake at 102.9, which is more variety hits. But there seems to be a gap for AC formats in the GSP and Charlotte markets and overlapping areas in between, with Magic gone and the Charlotte Mix apparently on the way out as well, since vacating 107.9. I guess both Lakes somewhat fill the gap, but not entirely.

It totally makes sense that 102.5 The Lake would play a slightly more rock lean since WROQ changed. But they are definitely not "classic rock" yet. Leaning that way definitely makes sense though.

102.5 The Lake has always leaned more rock and more modern than its Charlotte counterpart. I think they're just reaping the benefits of that now that WROQ is gone and Star 99.5 has a weak signal outside of Greenville/Pickens counties so they're getting a little bit of potential AC audience as well.

Audacy would be smart to take The Planet slightly deeper in to classic rock to try to get some of that audience back that may have gone to The Lake. X-98.5 is another mainstay option in the Greenville/Pickens county portion of the market for 90s-new rock.

I would like a strong AC signal to return in the place of the former Magic 98.9 and Mix 107.9. But perhaps this is not longer considered a viable format in this region.
Agreed. I know it’s not a strong signal, but AC has managed to get the 99.5 translator back at a 1 share or over after being on a year with no promotion, the best that signal has done since the Jack FM days. It’s actually the second highest rated translator after The Block which has an advantage of 3 signals. So I think the audience is there, but it doesn’t fit in any of the operators cluster strategy for a bigger signal in the market unfortunately. I like listening to Star when I’m in and around Greenville and sometimes stream them.

Audacy is starting to fire direct shots at WSSL and WESC, a type of radio war we haven’t seen in this market in quite some time. On Instagram, they tagged them directly.

Audacy is starting to take shots at competition when they don't even have enough effort above typing in a prompt into an AI photo generator and then posting it with a caption. Wow. Talk about poor execution.

It’s interesting Audacy hasn’t added any of their “national” country shows to 101.1. Since they almost have a Jack FM type presentation, I wonder if part of the strategy is to just stick to music? I do have to give them credit for (using interns I guess) being out in the community at Downtown Alive, country concerts, etc. They’re out every week somewhere. Getting out in to the community is one thing Audacy is doing right here.

I believe next month we’ll see the first full ratings results of just country music on 101.1.
