KLBJ 590 am now on Bob FM 103.5 HD-3

Finally well sort of KLBJ AM is on a full powered FM HD signal.

My initial reaction is that this could be the first of a sequence of events.

Perhaps a change of primary station for the 99.7 translator?

KLBJ 590 then launches a simulcast on 93.3, while a new format debuts on 103.5 HD-3 and 99.7?

Can confirm that KBPA HD-3 is a simulcast of KLBJ AM. The top of the hour ID, which I just heard 4 minutes ago, mentions the AM and translator but no the HD channel yet. Nothing filed at the FCC about changing K259AJ's primary station yet either.

Frog's reaction was what first came to my mind too. If you change the translator's primary the HD channel then they could run a redirect for a week or two before the new format on 99.7 debuts (assuming they don't keep Vibe).

How KLBJ is not on 93.3 already absolutely blows my mind.

Probably because if KLBJ were to do that since 93.3 is not a translator, KLBJ 93.7 would have to change it's calls.

Not necessarily. Chicago’s WBBM is an example of a market there an FM simulcast of the AM station has a different call (WCFS) while the same call on FM is a separate format.

How heavily does 93.7 use KLBJ-FM in its branding? I haven’t sampled it enough recently to determine that.

WSB is another prime example.

Pretty heavily. But does it even matter? KLBJ AM has been on the FM translator, with nearly equal branding for many years and it has apparently not caused enough confusion for 93.7 to be rebranded. 590 upgrading from 99.7 to 93.3 doesn't really add much more confusion. Austin is PPM after all.

I agree it is not ideal to have two different stations with very different forms both calling themselves "KLBJ" on the same band, but that ship sailed long ago.
